Beginner Routine For ME (Suggest/Critique)

New member
hello..

I am hoping to get some feedback on this routine. I am want to gain muscle at the same time I am losing weight (Cardio 7Days x2)

Stats:

Age:37
Weight:230lbs
Height:6'1"
BF%: 25+

I have no troubles lifting but I have not seen the results I want since High School. I do not want to start doing the samethings I have done in the past.
I am not that strong so I will be starting out small here.

Goals: I want to look a good overall. I get into specifics if some has a question. (Chest = stinks.. Need major improvements here)

This routine will be Mon, Wed and Fri..

Squats (ATF) 3x8

Bench Press 3x8

Dead Lift 3x8

Front Shoulder Press 3x8

Dips (3x As many as I can do)

Please help me nail down a routine...

Thanks, D

I have regularly run for the last two years.

I have not reguarly trained with weights in a long while. I felt I did not really gain anything from the excerises I was doing so I just did this or that..
(I would workout sometimes after I had run or something. I am familiar with
weight training. I used to do each bodypart kind of training.)

Thanks, D

How long have you been training, and how long has it been since you trained regularly?

Although it's cliche, I'd recommend investing in Mark Rippetoe's book Starting Strength. It will get your techinque down on the lifts and you can just do his program which is somewhat similar to yours but better balanced (i.e. you probably don't want to be doing deads every day). I'd also have a barbell row in there. Probably not worry about dips right now. Squat, bench, row , overhead, and pull deads no more than 1-2x per week. 3 sets of 8 for straight set weight is a lot so this is more important.
