beer a big problem?

Depends how much you drink. I drink on the weekends, and my diet is on point otherwise, and I still can get 2 pounds a week off. It sure slows the process, though.

around 12-13 lite beers friday, and same on sat. If my diet is good sunday through thursday will I still be able to cut?

not if you really want to get cut.. if you're just trying to lose weight.. maybe.. as long as you do an extra 10-12 hours of low intensity cardio per week lol. if you're in a caloric deficit and pouring that much alcohol into your system your muscle will say byebye
that's just way.. way too much. I had to limit myself to twice per month, and even then I only had maybe 4 or 5 shots of rum.

24-26 beers a week? you wanna get cut, or get drunk? pick one man.. I thought you were gonna say like 8-9 a week. When I do drink, if I don't have beer I get a jim beam and diet coke.. hasn't really hurt me, nothing in the diet coke and not much more in the beam except alcohol.

Jesus, bro. You must have been in my fraternity. ;)

I have been doing around that at least one night a week sometimes two and have been steadily getting more cut. when i get to a lower body fat that might stall but for now its been alright. try the jim beam and diet coke i mix that in once in a while. just stay strict during the week. you gotta have fun too so ide say do it for a few weeks and see how you feel.

damn thats kind of a bummer.
yeah well if you are at 25% BF and you've been getting drunk 5 nights a week... then switching to 2 will promote weight loss to a certain degree :)

You and I could hang out together.

I drink more liquor than beer now though, just for the reasons already mentioned.

u serious bro?
Serious about which part? I used to drink at least that much beer at a time. Having a wife and kids kind of slowed me down though. I still drink Jack Daniels or rum and diet coke, when it is called for.

But yes, I was a professional beer drinker for quite some times. I became proficient at it in the Marine Corps.

I don't drink beer very much at all anymore. I only drink liquor on occasion and not when I'm in contest prep mode or taking anything that it could team up with to have more serious effect on my liver and kidneys.

What does all that booze (or even the small amount you drink now) do to your physique?

It's hard to say. I don't think it affects me adversly, but then again, I don't know how I would look if I never drank. Maybe I'd look better, maybe I'd look the same. I don't feel as if it hurts me too bad though. Alcohol is a diuretic. Perhaps under the right circumstances, it could be used as a tool.

well there always 180 octane's......had about 3 of them and was hurling... I don't drink very much but that had me on my ass.....god i hoped it burned fat while i was yaking...

yep that qualifies as HIIT, your abs were convulsing for 30 seconds at a time at highest possible intensity, not to mention the calories you yaked out

Go ahead and get wasted man just go intense on the cardio and you'll be fine, after all getting drunk is fun. Consider it as a payoff from all your hard work in the gym. Try Corona or Sol, those are my favorites. Next day drink as much gatorade as you can hehe.

does alcohol affect while on gear (cyclye)?/??????????? it'll slow gains as far as testosterone levels?????

Horrible idea............alcohol and bodybuilding dont mix............

as for alcohol while on gear, its a horrible idea...liver and kidneys are under wayyy too much stress as it is.............

If you wanna drink on the weekends, fine. But stay away from beer. It's an empty calorie nightmare. Stick with rum or vodka with diet mixer.

no more of an empty calorie than rum or vodka bro.........actually, I bet the latter is worse, since beer is mostly water and alcohol has a comparable calorie ratio to fat........lesser of two evils, none the less.......

Actually, straight alcohols like rum and vodka contain no real macro nutrients and precious little calories. The high calories come from the sugary mixers.

Plus, the average person will consume several times more beer than the would straight alcohol in a sitting.

Strictly speaking, you shouldn't be doing either. But if you want to go out and get liquored on the weekends and spare yourself the most amount of calories, it's no contest.

Alcohol = 0 benefit (a just a few for your cardiovascular systems through polyphenols in red wine)

Alcohol = calories, less T and a few more drawbacks

Alcohol is alcohol and whether you get 150-200 calories from a couple of shots of Southern Comfort or a couple of beers, it's all the same. This is a substance that must be cleared from your system before fat (or anything else) can be burned. Just think on that.

I have a beer every so often. Heck, my favorite taste is Southern Comfort on the rocks or a nice single malt scotch. I'd rather have 1 SoCo over 4 beers any day of the week. But I also keep in mind that every time I pour myself a double, that's 360 calories that I've just added to my day.

Stay away from it as a habit because alcohol and health don't mix, period. My last year of college I tore out! Between the course of the day (class, yes class and play) I was sucking down 1200-2000 calories a day, all from alcohol (usually liquor). Drinking to get drunk ain't gonna help the ole physique. Having a drink or two with friends once a week is fine as long as you have curbed you're eating and you are working around it.

Dude drink in moderation, moderation is the key here do whaever the hell u want as long as it not in excess dont worry about is life is to short live it while u can. Because it can all be taken away in an instant and those months of sacrafise have been for nothing. Trust me I learned the hard way.

ok mate your weekend is an alcohol binge, youll suffer a reduction in protein synthesis by as much as 50% as per some studies on the weekend plus some fat gain at the time, especially if you eat

at the end of the day you can still cut but the chances of you losing muscle are higher, and your fat loss will be slower.

all comes down on what your priorities are. if having your beers and maybe picking up a girl or 2 on the weekend is your thing, then its all good as far as im concerned

wouldnt drink that much if i were on any drugs that were hard on the liver though, ie oral roids, dnp, that sort of thing

i could write a more detailed response but...fuck man its a case of beer!!

For me, although I haven't had a drop of liquor since New Years 2002, it's the next day and the days to come..........in college, I could booze hard all night and continue where I left off the next am...........now, my training suffers for days.............not worth it...........

Beer is actually one of the worst alcohol

Red wine or pure liquor are a better choice

But once again you have to choose between pleasure and dedication to lifting

I haven't had a drop since last October. I'm not even tempted anymore. I figure if I'm gonna consume any calories that don't help me to reach my fitness goals, then it's going to be in the form of food (lasagna, cake, pizza!!) instead of booze.

My thoughts exactly........

alcohol contains 7 calories per gram and they are absolutely empty calories, can't be converted to fat..however your body will burn the alcohol calories in your system while the regular calories are in the fat making mode..or something akin to this..so I drink lite beer on an empty stomach, and if I can avoid the late night drunken feast and just go to sleep w/o eating,I'll wake up pretty sliced

I Think its ok to reward yourself after busting your ass in the gym like a madman for a month. I give myself at least one night a month to sort of loosen up and have a night of fun. Its worked fine so far, however I know that alcohol can really slow down metabolism. I dont get demolished or anything.. maybe 4-5 drinks fast (nice fast buzz). I think in moderation and your not overdoing it should be fine though.... my 2 cents

I used to look at my really bad cheat meals that way. I'd eat 1/2 to a whole pizza, perhaps a dozen chocolate chip cookies, maybe down a half dozen or so Krispy Kremes tailgating before Vikings games...and I looked at that as my "reward" for working hard and eating right the rest of the week. But my gains were slow and I couldn't figure out why. How much of a reward is it to yourself to undo what you've done during the week? If I am going to eat something that ain't clean now, I account for it in my daily macros, and I still try to keep such occurrances to a minimum.

The best way to reward yourself for your hard work and dedication is to not eff it up in 10% of the time it took you to get where you are.

More than half the people here don't compete.

I definately get smashed on the weekends and I'm positive that it's hurt me, but I'm not going to quit enjoying my life. Part of this is the social circle I'm in is all college kids, looking to party it up on the weekends.

Freshmen year in college I would drink 3-4 times a week and didn't even lift. How much better off an I now? A shitload.

One thing to think about - in an article I read - beer encourages fat distribution around the gut area while hard alcohol encourages fat distribution around the internal organs (which is worse for your health, but better for your appearance)

I mix it up, beer on friday, hard liquor on saturday, or vice versa. I would like to eventually cut the beer out except for 1 time a month or so and see what happens.

this is all my opinion of course.
