Been thinking about re-enlisting...

Im starting to get concerned that I havent found something career wise that I truly enjoy. Ive had the opportunity to work in a few different areas over the past 6-7 years or so (although they all had to do with money) but not only do I not enjoy it, I cant really come up with anything that I would enjoy if you were to ask me. Aside, of course, for something along the lines of nursing which Im pseudo-working towards now.

Folks Ive talked to are confident I can easily get a medical waiver to get me back in if I desired. Maybe get accepted to a nursing school prior to enlisting so that Uncle Sam pays for my edumucation. Or maybe going into the intelligence field.

Obviously my wife would prefer I not do this. We both love Chicago and she wouldnt want to uproot and move again, so if I did indeed go through with this if I happened to be stationed nowhere around where we are now (eg Wisconsin) then I wouldnt see much if any of her for a while...which obviously I want to avoid. One would suggest going into the reserves so I can stay at home unless deployed, but that would require me finding a job that I actually like and can stick with.

Life (in)decisions blow.

Stay the course and finish nursing school
since youre married its probably not a good idea to do things that
cause turmoil like joining up and getting shipped out
nursing school isnt that long rob

People DIE in the us military. People also go through HELL and get treated like CRAP.

Just thought i'd let you know. You can make more money at mcdonalds than as a private.

Bro intelligence is the way to go. When you decide to retire you can take your credentials and acquantances to pursue a Private Investigation career. I know a bunch of guys here in my state that have done just this. My boss has been in the business for 40 years. He has an extreemly high rep in the state and his earnings are around 400-500k annualy and he's a small business now compaired to what he used to be.

Intel seems interesting, but the PI field does not. If anything, when I get out I could theoretically look into a variety of gubment jobs (NSA, for instance).

"look at me, titan of the corporate world, now thinking of applying
my blue blooded whit and white privlege to the military world"
or something like that

Don't reenlist for money. There's many many SAFER ways to make half decent money (such as being a contractor money AND get treated 5-star).

Or join the air force :)

finish nursing and get paid. my friend makes excellent money as a nurse and he only works like 4 days a week. long shifts but he loves it. he started at 87k, starting. thats far from chump change for day 1. you could irreparably damage your marriage by re-enlisting. not worth it unless you wouldnt mind starting over again.

When did I say I was thinking about this because it paid well?

Paying for nursing school is expensive, which is what brought on this idea. I can enlist in the reserves, theyll pay for school and I wont have to serve until I graduate. Once I do, itll be 4 years of one weekend a month, two weeks a year unless I get deployed. They ask for 2 years of service in exchange for one year of school. I can finish my Bachelors in Nursing in 2 years as I already have a bachelors in a different field.

Don't know how old you are, butt life wood be much easier if you were a RN then went in the military as an officer.

Maybe retire a LT Col, then get you a gubment job :)

Also, being prior USAF I'd highly recommend it over (re)enlisting into any other branch.

Im starting to think nobody is reading my posts.

And yeah, Im actually sitting down with an AF recruiter this week. I know they can be very selective these days due to more folks enlisting (and opting for the AF due to the reasons you mentioned) but I think I got a good shot.

if youve come to the conclusion it would work for you, gotta do what you feel is right.

You've been there, you know the score. The real question is how your wife would feel, nothing else really.

You've already got some college so you'd go in with rank, that's a plus. They'd pay for your education, another plus. Destructive as hell to relationships and there is the potential deployment, major downsides.

Just my $0.02, but I would say stay away from the reserves. If you're gonna go you're ass might actually be safer going active duty (well, if you select the right MOS. You go into Intel or nursing, it's a MAJOR crap shoot).

i know bro, i was attempting a lol but failed apparently
:(
i say go for it
:)

Ah sorry bor. These internets are good for detecting sarcasm. :(

while i'm a big proponent of applying analysis and logic, based on the best information currently available and historical experience with an eye toward the future, to every major decision in life. . .sometimes, the final decision has to be based on your gut and your heart. . .i think this is probably one of those times. . .and, i'll congratulate you no matter what you decide to do. . .you're a good egg.

every man dies, not every man really lives. . .

but i do have the impression of you being a minor-league captain of finance...how you come across, not in a dickhead way mind you.
can't believe you'd walk away from that, esp with the wifey.
but if you're willing to walk away from sucess then you'd proly be a awesome military officer

Thanks sugartits, youre a good bor too.

Although your post was nothing but a bunch of Hallmark card gibberish.

Me = no dickhead.

Yeah its all about finding a balance between what I really want with what I need to do in order to keep the family going.

don't be stupid bro. most people don't discover what they love to do for awhile. it would just be a distraction/another path that probably wouldn't be condusive to what you ultimately want.
