Because my wine has a screw cap does it automatically = teh suck?

Actually no, it does not necessarily mean that as it once did.

There has been a major problem with cork rot so better wines are now using synthetic corks or screw caps. I even saw a mid-priced table wine... IN A BOX. Not even kidding you.

Java likes to share box wine with his men friends. :rainbow:

They are starting to make wines with screw caps now. Surprised the heck out of me, but some pretty good ones are screw caps these days.

I am seriously trying to cut back on my drinking. I prefer white, a pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc to chardonnay. Whereas the Old Grump prefers red, pinot noir, merlot or cabernet.

I do LOVE the beaujolais nuveaus... but they dont last very long. :(

Excellent table wine and exceptional value are:

Il Bastarda - white

and

La Bastardo - red

We are talking <10$ p/bottle. Not fancy but good stuff. Actually the Old Grump and I are on a quest to find the best bottles for no more than 10$ p/bottle. When you are whinos like us and you drink a case p/week, that shit adds up. LOL

I LOVE to try new wines with new cheeses.... a new hobby for me, though not helping me with dieting :( . We go down to the Central Market and get all sorts of yummy stuff. Nothing like some nice wine with wonderful cheese, cherry/grape tomatoes or some fruit... YUMMY

In a study of hundreds of wines from around the globe, Cornell researcher Leroy Creasy found the highest resveratrol levels in pinot noir grapes grown in cooler, rainy places like the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York and Oregon's Willamette Valley. (In fact, the highest resveratrol content found in a wine was in Vinifera's Fleur de Pinot Noir, with four times as much as the nearest California pinot noir tested; chart). Long sown in France's cool Burgundy region, pinot noir is considered a finicky grape to grow, in part because it is susceptible to rot, which may be the reason it produces more resveratrol than other grapes--up to 40 times as much resveratrol as grapes such as merlot and cabernet sauvignon.
