BB rows

when doing barbell rows are you supposed to rest the weight on the floor between reps (like you would deadlifting), keep it off the ground the whole set, or touch it to where it hits the ground then right back up?

you should be leaning over a bench, with your other hand on it for stability. during the set the weight should not touch the floor, just to your pec and back down until your arm is fully extended again.

I believe the west is talking about DB rows, not BB rows. I know that when doing Pendlay Rows, your back is parallel to the floor and you rest the weight on the floor between each rep (like a deadlift).

If you are doing a 90 degree bent over row, you should deload to the floor with each rep. This will allow you to generate more power and explosive strength. I've even recently found I prefer this with DB Rows.

If you are doing barbell rows not 90 degree, then bend over more and see above :)

so i am. sorry for that useless info lol, i didnt read it properly.
i dont go to the floor with BBs either, iv seen it done with the pendlay rows, but iv never done them myself.

i've never done them this way. I always keep constant tension on the muscles. Sounds interesting though. 90 degrees? Gotta be kinda hard on the low back with any thing heavy i'd think?

Go to youtube and search for pendlay rows. Check 'em out. Personally, I think they're easier on the lower back once you start getting heavy...

Call me stupid, but I really don't see the point. how is this better than reg BO BB rows? I think constant muscle tension is key.

I agree. I did strict pendelays for a while and deloading the weight on the floor every rep did little for my back thickness. I would rather use a little "looser" form with more weight on the bar while keeping constant tension on the muscles. I think the same guy how invented these also claims the only way to get a thick and strong chest is to flat barbell press exclusively.

I hear what you guys are saying and it makes sense. For me, though, deloading the weight allows me to put more weight on the bar. I guess I have a weak lower back because, if I didn't deload, it would wreck my back.

my gym has machines that mimic this movement and isolate the muscle. I usually just use these, I seem to get a better workout from these.
