Bananas

Hey guys

Just wondering how good/bananas are for cutting. I usually add one small banana to my kellogs special k or all bran flakes for breakfast?

Much Appreciated

you can lose weight, and even fat while eating bananas.....I know, I use to eat them all the time.

But once you start getting lower in body fat, its a different story. I have cut out fruit completely, except a piece here and there. Bananas are so high in sugar, if you want to eat fruit, eat oranges, or kiwis.

Just make sure you eat it as your post workout meal, best if its early in the day as well.

Fruit is not BAD at all, In fact, alot of people miss out from the health benefits fruit provides. But this is a bodybuilding board, and not a health board. Most BB's cut fruit out while cutting.

a trainer told me i should eat a bananna 1 hour prior to training...
i havent because im cutting and understand about the whole fuctose vs gluclose intake, but what are you opions on this comment?

the trainer is a moron

try having the fruit on your carbload days, get all the nutrition benefits from it on that particular day? instead of having a cheat day just have good carbs and fruits and u be glad ,and your energy level will also be super in da gym :)

Fibrous vegetables are better because they are lower in calories per serving. I still eat banana's, but I try to limit my intake to eating no more than 3 per week.

When cutting if you want to eat fruit you 'd better choose one with fewer carbs (strawberries, melon, blueberries,....)

fair enough...but the hi gi from a banana cant really hurt before training if your just going to use it for fuel..ull burn it up right?

"Eat a banana, it gives you potassium and energy!"

When people say things like this, I basically feel like killing them. Extreme, huh?

Fruit will not give you energy for a weight-training session, and it will not improve the benefits of a cardio session. It won't give you any feeling of energy at all. If you want potassium, there are foods with more potassium per calorie (low sodium, too). An example is a tomato, also many other vegetables that have less sugar than tomatos. Shit, you could make an ice/seaweed blender-shake and get potassium.

If you must eat fruit while cutting, you should eat something small and otherwise beneficial, like a guava. That has potassium, too. For pre-workout energy while cutting, my favorites are protein drinks, glycerine, ECA, plain caffeine (500mg), baking powder, speed stack, and definitely not bananas! If I want some form of nutritive energy during a workout, then MAYBE I will take some sugar, but I won't eat it, I will drink it.

Bananas are for monkeys.

I am in a shitty mood from work/school.

One of the biggest things I hate about cutting is not being able to throw a banana in my protein shake. Shakes just ain't the same without the banana. But, like everyone said, they have alot of sugar which ain't good for cutting.

as bananas ripen the ratio of fructose to glucose changes. very ripe (yellow) bananas are high in glucose and low in fructose. green bananas are the way to go when cutting but they don't taste 1/2 as good as when they are ripe.
