Anthrax pretty much hit the nail on the head with his post....but another reason I would take a swig with a lot of my meals during pre comp is to counteract any insulin spike caused by the meal. The acidity will lower the GI of the meal. For example, look at the GI rating of sourdough bread versus wheat bread. The acid in the sourdough bread lowers the GI during digestion and absorption.
