Bad Head Pain!

While Maxing on squats I started getting a throbbing pain in the back of my head and still kept working out. Probably not a good idea, but regardless I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. It feels kind of like when you sleep on your head the wrong way and your neck hurts in the morning, but in the back of my head and not my neck.

Thanks for input!

At first I thought it was the breathing and it may have initially caused it, but I made sure after it started to breath. It just kept getting worse and hurts now so I can't go to sleep 6 hours later. I really doubt it was blood pressure that caused it either, but it's possible. I would go to the doctor, but that would require a ct and I don't exactly have the money for it which is why I didn't take the last one I was told to take.

I have had the same problem before, like Souther LOrd said prolly just a blood preasure spike. Are you taking any supps or cycling any PH's or AAS.

I had something like this happen to me before. Was the pain at the very back of the head, near where your neck connects to it? I also thought it was a blood pressure spike especially since it was so bad that it I would still feel the pain hours later. It was scary because anything that would seem to raise my blood pressure, i.e. sex, would bring back this pain for a few days afterwards.

A few people pointed out to me that I might have been straining my neck by just slightly pushing it my head back towards the bar. I took a few days off of squating heavy and when I came back I made sure to be mindful about my neck. I haven't had it since. Good luck with that.

Yeah pretty much the exact same thing that happened to me. I guess if I go run later I will find out if it gets worse. It is now 13 hours later and it still hurts pretty bad and now my ears are starting to hurt. It wasn't so bad on squats, but when I got to machine hack squats is what freaking killed me. It was the first day with a training partner so I couldn't act like a pussy.

Also I'm not taking anything and no I didn't hit my head on the bar. I would no if that was the problem because last time I did that and didn't even think anything of it and it gave me a concussion and the worst night of my life.

I have had that happen to me when I did 20 rep squats. an extreme pain came to the back of my head and all I wanted to do was lie down in the fetal position. After taking a break for a week, I went back to squats and it came back just as strong. Sex was very painful for me too. I think I posted about my headaches on here and everybody had me worrying about aneurysms and high blood pressure. Went to the doctor, he wanted me to get an MRI...hell no.

What worked for me and many others that I researched: stretch the neck and trap muscles numerous times a day. My favorite stretch was the Levator Scapulae/Upper Trap Stretch...google it.

It could very well be an aneurysm/high blood pressure/etc, but I believe in most cases it is just tight muscles around that region.

Here's a link to the stretch: http://www.straighttothebar.com/2007/12/levator_scapulae_stretch.html

Do you or anyone else think it would help if I included a neck workout in my routine. I have determined that it is most likely the Sternocleidomastoid muscle. The two things that have brought me to this conclusion is the fact that heat helps relieve the pain and also sprinting or raising heart rate to 180+ bps does not induce it.

Hah I don't know, you know more about it than me. When I had the severe headaches, I never tried heat but I know only squats and power cleans aggravated it. I sprinted as a form of HIIT during the time also which gave me no pain. After continuous stretching I went back to 20 rep squats and the pain came from the same area but was very mild and eventually went away. What made you decide to include neck work though?
