i've been hitting mostly basic barbell movements for the last few months. i honestly think it's the only way you'll stay and be strong. the old timers that i started lifting with 20 years ago were big barrel chested fuckers that could squat and bench 365 cold & were 60+ years old. "Put some weight on your back" was what they would tell you if you asked what to do for size.
today, i see much of the same, preacher curling, benching, lat pull downs. and not many impressive physiques. what i want to do here is this: get back to doing basic and brutal exercises. i get excited thinking about what i want to do in the gym that night, but i can only manage 1 or 2 of these exercises per. which is the way it's supposed to be. if you're doing 5-6 sets of squats, then leg presses and extensions and etc., you're not training very intensely. today, i did SQ's and V bar dips, hands about 12 inches apart. that, with 4 sets of lunges was all i could manage.
i wanna make a list here of exercises that are hardly ever performed.
i tried barbell hacks today. i'm still scratching my head on how these are performed. next, i think i'll try some Jefferson lifts. looks akward and unrewarding. must be a great exercise. how about Zercher squats?
