back hyperextensions and lower back problems

When i do back hyperextensions my lower back feels extreeeeemely tight? Do you think this is harmful if i suspect having lower back problems from working on the drilling rigs. No steroids involved so its not BP ..

Strech more... daily.... 3 times a day... reach down and touch your toes. STATIC streching....not ballistic (bouncing and crap)...

And then do Body Weight (BW) Hypers... a couple sets of let's say 8 ... once a week... and build up their strength slowly.

I have lower back issues as well... I feel your pain... I think, lol... unless you slipped a disc or something.

First up...hyperextentions are done mainly to focus on your hamstrings. Try to tighten them while doing them, also, don't go so high up, I see gusy flinging all up in the air, just go parralell. Try going slow too, none of this swining and flinging like a monkey, respect the equipment (not sayign you don't) I started light deads with proper form and back feels much better, i slipped a disc three years ago. Keep them light and slow. Tighten the glutes and hamstrings, try not to feel yoru back. Strethching is also key component.

Why go parralel when the exercise is called "HYPER-extensions?"

Agreed... on the slow and controled movement.

I'm not sure hypers focus on the hamstrings though either...

because actual hyperextension by arching can put abnormal pressures on your discs. best to keep a neutral spine and let your posterior chain work.

prime movers being hamstrings, glutes and spinal erectors (unless you keep your back flat then they are just there for isometric support)

The first time I did Hyper Extensions my back was painfully tight due to not having done them before. Over time they went away and now I do them once a week with my routine.

But I experienced EXTREME tightness to the point of having trouble bending over at work, but it was just for that night and a little bit the next morning. Then I did them 4 more times before I decided I was changing my routine and now I don't have a problem with them, adding weights to my HE's next week.

And like they said above, tone down the reps till it goes away and add on to it every week.
