Back/Chest Strength Imbalance?

I just healed up from a minor shoulder dislocation, and I started physical therapy yesterday. My therapist said that my chest/front delts are too strong relative to my back/rear delts, and this imbalance could make it easier to dislocate my shoulder in the future. She didn't ask me what my maxes are, so I take her statement with a grain of salt, but I'm still a little worried about what she said.

Is there any kind of "ideal" relationship between your 5-rep max bench and 5-rep max bent row? Pre-shoulder-injury, my max bench was stuck at 330x5, and my max Pendlay row was still improving at 235x5. Is that considered a large imbalance?

Obviously, there can be quite a bit of a difference between them without cause for concern, but IIRC in old threads on this, Glenn said that having the weaker lift <80% of the stronger one was considered a significant imbalance. It sounds like you're like a lot of guys who did a ton of benching and neglected rows for a while but that the imbalance is well on its way to being corrected, since you'll almost certainly progress much faster at rows than bench in the future.

I agree w/ CS - personally, my bench and row are about the same

Thanks all.

Looks like I have a pretty serious imbalance. I'm ashamed to admit that I definately was a bench monkey, and I neglected my back for a long time. I might try adding some pull downs to my Mon and Fri workouts to help speed things up.

You need to GP Row if your shoulder can handle it.

Do you deadlift? If not, that'd be a good idea.

you dont just do rows to balance. there are many exercises that need worked. Dead works the shoulders as well.. pullups dead rows.. do them all..

I hate seeing guys will chest and little skinny backs.. damn it..

I have the exact opposite problem. My back is Insanely stronger/larger then my Chest/front.

my row to bench ratio is 150% . Due to my job, and not training for a period of time.
