Why is this...the top hurts sometimes but not like the rest....any ideas as to why and what I can do to help it out...The only thing I can think of is that when I was doing Lat pulldowns...there is a leg pad and I don't think I had my legs far enough under and my weight wa heavy (115) so I was putting pressure on the tops of my knee caps. But as soon as I do any treadmill the back of knee tightens....help :qt:

what are you doing for cardio and squats? individually they may be ok, but combined with the knee pad they may have a cumulative effect

Squats....free weight 135 pounds......leg press/squat press 385 pounds.....

cardio...kickboxing, treadmill, aerobics/step

Drop the treadmill for 2 weeks and see if it improves.

This is information which I had posted in another thread but it may be of use to your condition:

The iliotibial band is a band of tissue that extends from the thigh down over the knee and attaches to the tibia. When the knee bends or straightens the IT band slides over the outer knee. There is a condition called iliotibial band friction syndrome (ITBFS) which occurs when you perform exercises or activities which cause the IT Bands to overwork. Any pain or sorness in the area of the knee though, will be felt on the outer sides and not internally. If it is an internal pain you are experiencing then you would want to look more towards damage to supporting ligaments or even arthritis.

IT Band (Iliotibial Band) are dependant upon strong hip anductors. If you are weak in this area then the IT Bands will compensate and be overworked. If you are a runner and experience pain or aching on the outer side of your knee(s) then this is likely a sign.

If you bend your leg at a 30 degree angle and then press your finger on the outer side at the line of the bend then it will feel sore if it is infact the IT Bands which are your problem. If it is the case, then ease-up on the leg exercises (ie: running) and concentrate on strengthening your hip area.
