Atrial Fibrillation

I went to the er a few weeks ago for atrial fibrillation after leaving the gym. I felt fine, no dizzyness no fainting, my heart rate was 200bpm and there was absolutly no regular consistent beat for 3 hours after it started.
Went and saw a cardiologist, had a stress test, ecocardiogram, and wore a halter monitor for a day. They cant find anything wrong with me, they told me I have a more than healthy heart. Even after telling them about 2 cycles I had done. Deca/test
He put me on toprol-xl to lower my heart rate the intensity of the beat and get rid of my heart palpitations.
Anyone ever experience atrial fibrillation while they work out or have been on toprol-xl.
Just curious. I personally dont know of anyone who has taken this at my age so any info would be cool.

Yeah, I can answer any question you have about atrial fibrillation

yeah, atrial fibrillation is a common occurence among older people. Lots of folks get it, its a pain in the ass in layman's terms b/c you have to go on coumadin and have to go to coumadin clinics to measure your clotting factor to keep you in the zone.

It reduces cardiac output by 25% b/c of the loss of a contracted atrial kick and people feel run down with it more so.
Some dont feel a thing though. You can control the rate with a betablocker like metoprolol or atenolol etc...

Its actually the most common irregular heart rhythm not counting palpitations which occur in everyone.

Dont change your lifestyle unless you drink often, that causes it, in a lot of cases though no reason, its old age but stimulants dont help.

I assume you went in and got cardioverted by chemical or electrical. Thats a huge deal. The longer you stay in the rhythm the more likely you'll eventually stay in chronically needing the bloodthinning.
Why blood thinners? B/c clot forms in the left atrium b/c of the uncoordinated contraction and then cause a stroke.
So, its important that you stay out of the rhythm and get out of it as soon as possible b/c the atrium are thin walled structures and will stretch out the longer you are in, hence you are more likely to go into it again. Its a cycle.

Once you get it, you may get it again. Get to the ER asap and get converted, demand it, chemical first, if not then sparked up with electricity.

It shouldnt affect your life at all if you are in a normal sinus rhythm, just be aware that you can be in afib in a controlled rate, meaning less than a 100 and you are irregular, meaning your atrium are stretching out. Thats the bad part, people go in for a checkup and its discovered theyve been in that rhythm for who knows long. Then they have stretched out atria meaning poor electrical transmission, meaning youll be a chronic case.

They have a maze procedure if you start to go into it often and your atria arent stretched to badly, thats ablating the tissue to help electrical transfer.

Really, its not that bad if you only got it once. Just have to be vigilant, the betablocker will make you more tired in some cases, controls bloodpressure which can cause it afib as well.
An aspirin a day should also be taken to help prevent clot formation just in case you go into without noticing, aspirin makes blood cells "slippery"
