Aspirating bubble?

oxymoron

It's been about 1-1/2 yrs since mylast cycle so I'm not sure if this looked right.
When I aspirated yesterday with my first shot of my new cycle, a pretty big air bubble came back into the syringe. Is that right? It seemed like it just gave me a bunch of resistance when I had aspirated before (or pulled red if a vein was hit of course). Should I be seing an air pocket?

It sounds to me like there was just a bubble in the needle that you didn't get out.

What were you shooting? If it was oil based, that can trap a bubble pretty easily and when you press the plunger to expel the air, a little oil in the top of the needle comes out and the bubble just moves up. Then when you aspirate it gets pulled back into the barrel.

I usually try to get the air to the top of the barrel when changing between drawing needle and shooting needle. That way I know that the only thing between the juice and the sharp end is air. Push on the plunger until a drop forms, and I know I have all the air out.

The bubble was likely just a vacuum - the oil won't expand to fill in the extra space. Otherwise, pressure may have lifted the seal and allowed air in.

Happens to me almost every time I inject. No worries - like bill said it's from a vacuum or loose seal between the needle and syringe. Make sure the needle is locked in place next time.

Yeah no worries and i dont know why so many people are so concerned with making sure they get all the air out.

+1

yep, same here...bunch of little bubbles every time i aspirate - i think i'd be concerned now if i didn't see them

Back in my EMT days, I had an instructor who taught that on IM & SubQ that you should actually have a very small bubble on the head of the plunger. This way, when you injected, all the drug would be expressed out of the needle.

YMMV,

Same thing with me. Every single inject and i aspirate i get a bubble. I was worried at first but after the first few and nothing happening i figured it was all good.

You don't need much of a bubble. You know the pins that come in a newly bought dress shirt? If you are using a 1cc syringe with a 1" 23 ga needle all you need is twice the size of the head of that pin.

Yes, that is what you want. The air bubble ain't gonna hurt you.
