I am happy for him.....I didn't doubt him for one moment. This recall race wouldn't even be on the map if it weren't for him. He's the one that made it something. He's a very smart man with incredible resources at his fingertips. It doesn't take a politician to turn things around, it takes a successful person who actually cares.

I donated to McC, but am not saddened to see him move the state back into the Republican column.
Still, looking at all of this, he is incredibly blessed or lucky or both. He could not have won the governorship under any other circumstances - an abbreviated race (6 weeks rather than 18 months) and with no primary.

Ironically, I don't think Davis had anything to do with the allegations. They have made public statements to that effect and the LA times confirmed that the women were not approached or encouraged to come forward by anyone in the Davis camp. I think Davis's perchant for running dirty campaigns bit him in the ass here. It was easy to convince a lot of people that Davis was behind it simply because people knew he had resorted to such dirty tactics in the past. I have a hunch it was probably Arianna Huffington who got the ball rolling there (with the sexual allegations). I hate professional politicos as much as the next guy, but why am I not happy he won? Is it because he's a Nazi sympathizer? Is it because I think people have confused his persona with his political abilities? (Just because he can beat the bad guy and save the day in a movie doesn't mean he can do it in real life.) Is it because it's sent the signal that it's ok to disrepect women to the extent he has? Or is it all of the above? I sincerely hope I'm proven wrong, but I think California just made a mistake.

That brings the total budget for the war - so far - to $166 billion. But pay no attention to the enormous $550 billion budget hole we're slowly digging, if another $87 billion is what's needed, then another $87 billion is what we shall pay. Just to put things in perspective, $87 billion is three times the amount Bush intends to spend on education this year and well over twice the budget for Homeland Security. To put it further into perspective, the 1991 Gulf War cost the United States about $20 billion total. And to put things even further into perspective, ask yourself how much of that $87 billion is going to go directly into Halliburton and the Carlyle Group's back pockets.
