Arnold: Bodybuldings First "Bad Boy."

There's a lot of talk as to wheater the old timers were more dedicated and more into health and I believe the answer is "yes" on both counts. Naturally, people are people and had they been given the choices available today, a lot of old timers would have taken advantage of them.

But in general, the magazines promoted health and that was adopted by the populace. Bodybuilders were known as "health nuts." It wasn't until Arnold came along and irreverantly (conciously? calculatingly?) broke the rules.

He used more drugs than was considered acceptable. He was willing to push the limits. He was also very vocal about forgetting to take his vitamins and liking beer. He wasn't discreet in the way he went through women. (Believe it ot not, Weider felt this contradicted the "clean cut" image he was trying to give bodybuilding.) And to top it off, he was shown smoking a joint at the end of Pumping Iron. Arnold singlehandly reinvented the bodybuilder from being a "square" into a hip, rebulous fun seeker.

Arnold has always had an uncanny talent for picking the right time to go against the grain. He got into acting when they said muscles were "out" but by chance, "Stay Hungry" and The Jayne Mansfield " story were being cast.
And of course, what better role for a bad actor with a heavy accent than to play a cyborg with 2 lines of dialouge?

And what better time for him to get into politics than when people are so disgusted with the residing govenor of California that there was a recall?

Timing is everything.

Don't be surprised if in 2008 he timing is right for the law to be changed about having a foreign born President.
And I believe he'll win -- for no other reason other than one undeniable fact. He's a winner.

well, earlier you had had " hercules in new york, Conan " etc.
His very bad ass movie ( A C serie movie ) featured a violent psycho on drugs.
Funny yet, he got auditioned first for FLASH GORDON ( the all times most expensive science fiction movie in 1980 ), then discarded after a rash verbal exchange with producer De Laurentiis about his accent.
Years ago ( after getting married ) he bought all copies & all right to broadcasting of the above just because of his "clean up" carpet bagging move.
I'm not sure whether that one was the only garbage movie he wouldn't go proud about in his "american hero" glossy image.

Arnold is wise: he admitted he had widely used steroids; he admitted most of his swings & wrongdoings publicly & that appealed to the american spirit of a brand new country made of fugitive & "wanted" of all sorts.

Every move of his shows a careful planning: his switching to pathetic comedies ( twins, elementary school cop which i have never watched ) was a part of his long term move towards political power.
Box office flops, yet they credited him with a "all family" cover.
Then humour movies ( last action hero; true lies ).

The man ( i read somewhere he's VERY educated as well ) is a genius.

The fact he was paid $1,000 by a homosexual to allow the guy to kiss his biceps might impact him but I doubt it. Hes essentially amoral and interested only in power over those around him, especially women. I didn't believe he would be governor but it shows people are not concerned at all with a person's morality or courage but only interested in image. He is a genius at self promotion but he is not "real" in any way and those guys always are found out eventually.

Celebrity gets you in the door, but results keep you there. If he gets California back on its feet, people won't care what how phoney or amoral he's been. Ronald Reagan's career was based mostly on image and doing what he said he was going to do. Sometimes the way things look are as important as the way things are. America is eager for a leader who appears confident. Neither of the two choices we have coming this November fit the bill.

Didn't mean to get sidetracked, but that's allowed here. : )

I agree. And I think he's anything but a tough-guy. And never was. He has all the qualities of a megalomaniac.

This is my point. The German people were looking for someone with sure answers after World War I and found them in another confident Austrian named Adolf Hitler. The railroads ran on time, the coubtry became prosperous and powerful...for awhile. In the end America needs to stand for whats right..not what looks or sounds good.

I wouldn't be surprised if any of that happens. Not at all. But after consuming all of the copius amounts of D-bol that he ate....I fully expect him to take the same path to expiration status as the one Dan Duchaine and the Mentzer brothers took. Quite possibly before 2008.

hmm...
a 50 years in power mafia politician here says: " being in power wears off those who aren't in power ".
And we all know George doublejew had for a long time more than just a fascination with beer.
Clinton was the amoral totem ( not because he'd have sex, but WHERE, with WHOM & he perjured ).

many celebrities run naked specials.
and you guess what if he had rejected the man with a "pis off fag": the O.J BS ante litteram. Masses would cry prejudice & racism, so yea let the sweet dude kiss while dishing out a grand...everybody's happy.

Arnold is wise: one move at a time. Unlike others who cry wolf then don't act, he progresses slowly yet steadily.
He plays the american piano by the rules & gives the audience what they need.
I wouldn't call him stupid.

You're stating that the deaths of Dan Duchaine and the Mentzer brothers were due to taking D-bol?
