arms on taller people

SAGAT

New member
why is it that ...let's say...18 inch arms on a 6'2" person are considered less impressive than 18inch arms on (for example) a 5'8" person? i don't understand the logic behind this..i would say it is easier for a shorter person to pack on mass than a taller person...right? or am i completely wrong here. can someone explain this to me?

i know they LOOK more impressive, but that's not what i meant. what i meant to say was; why is it considered less impressive to ACHIEVE that size for a taller person.

Well, to restate whaat zack said, a taller person will have a longer arm, hence a longer muscle, from origin to insertion. When you curl the arm, and that muscle rolls up, and you measure it, a longer muscle should make a larger roll. Like rolling up a throw rug vs rolling up a living room carpet.

I suppose it depends on whether you're talking relaxed or flexed too.

Its all about proportion. There is also a ratio involved:

Muscle PP of weight = Weight (KG or LBS) / Height (CM or IN)

A person who is 6'2" needs at least 21 inch arms to match a person who is 5'8" and has 18 inch arms.

spatts: that example makes sense (i was talking about flexed btw), but what if the arm is unflexed....?

louden: are you sure about the 6'2"person needing a 21 inch arm to match a 5'8" 18 incher? if so, i've got a couple of inches to go, damn!

yea taller people generally have their work cut out for them. but on the flip side, my long waist at 34in should be lookin thinner than a person with a short waist of 34inches.
