Are you satisfied?

Are you doing what you love or wanted to do when you were younger or have you settled for what you do for a living?
Personally, I work in the oilfield and I am one of the few people in my line of work that has a college-level education. I do enjoy what I do and still find it amazing that we are able to do the things we do. I work on a rig, drilling for natural gas for now. For me it is just a stepping stone to better pay, more interesting work. Sometimes though, I can't help but look at what I do and think...how the hell did I end up here?
Just curious to hear if any of you feel the same way.

I work as a designer for myself and I have to say since I've gone on my own I'm satisfied. I just I want more, bigger and newer types of design challenges.

when i was at school, i wanted to be an architect. Instead, i ended up doing business majoring in real estate finance and development.

Now, i'm responsible for delivering multi-million dollar development projects. Very rewarding and very challenging work.

I start with a large piece of vacant dirt and 2-3 years down the track there is a shopping centre or office building or business park on it. A great sense of achievement.

thanks it is alot of fun.

Had i just done architecture at college, it would have given me the design skills but not the business acumen necessary to put a development deal together. So i chose business, majoring in real estate finance and development and i'm glad i did.

Vinyl... that does sound very cool. Nice to see a project come to fruition. My work is very satisfying most of the time. But for me to see the same type of results I would have to see people turn on their electric stoves, fireplaces or flip a light switch. Not all that exciting.

lol.......a good friend of mine is involved in exploration. He studied geology at university and is now employed by BP here in Australia. He is responsible for searching and finding new fields. Could you not get into the exploration side of the business by studying further?

I don't know much about the exploration side and really not a lot of it going on here in the states anymore. Most of it is offshore now. Certainly I would have to get a degree in geology to do it, a far cry from my Journalism/Aviation degrees. Directional drilling is where I am heading now, it is very similiar to instrument flying so I have a good headstart. Hopefully I will be in that area sometime in the near future, and if things work out somewhere in South America or Australia.

We'll see what I have to say in a few months when I'm a college graduate. Right now, I have no direction or idea where I want to be. I used to, but I don't anymore. I just know that I won't settle. I want to be somewhere where I will be happy. Hopefully, I'll figure out where that is.

No I'm not, I'm still waiting for the Pamela and velvett pillow fight! And the winner gets to rub down both Brianna Banks and Jenna Haze before their Bungy Jumping pocket rocket scene!

Im on the right path,I want to work in corrections, and get in asap because college is driving me nuts and I feel like I am spinning my wheels everyday, its so depressing

i am pretty sure i may never be satisifed with career choices. i never thought i would be out of the workforce this long either.

Well, I went to school and graduated a mechanical engineer specializing in thermodynamics. Now I am lead engineer for the sheetmetal division of an HVAC company. Not exactly what I had in mind, and to be honest it's not very challenging for me, but it's real close to home and the money is great, so I'm content to stay here. Plus, the company is doing VERY well. We've had record years during this recession, if the economy picks up we will literally explode with new business. And I do enjoy working here, we have really good people and a great working atmosphere.

So I'm kind of reluctant to leave for a harder job that is further from home that doesn't have the job security I enjoy now, and might not pay as good. I guess I'm satisfied. :)

Being an electronics technician, i love assembling components to do my bidding.
