Are you born with a good work ethic or do you develop it with experience?

Must be developed. I think some people are more naturally lazy than others.

I think it is vital to make your kids see time as a resource as early on as possible. I was never really conscious of this thing called time that was passing for a long time. I didn´t value it. I´m adapting now.

work ethic is something kids should learn early on. not by doing loads of hard work too young and not playing but just by being conscious of the time that passes and what things can be done with it

Neither ... I'm a slacker. I do the minimum to get by and I've actually done pretty well.

Of course, I'll never live up to my potential ... but I doubt I drop dead of a heart attack on the job some Monday morning either.

My work ethic started early on in life...as you know, I love to fuck with things and take them apart...such as the vacuum cleaner when I was about 12 or so. I swore I could fix it, but it never worked again. Funny thing was...it wasn't broke to begin with that I can remember.

I think it was after that little endevor, I started learning focus, and ultimately, accountability for for any jobs I complete. So I think it is learned over time in a sense.

I definitely think it's learned but I dont think you learn it on your own, atleast, not so much when you are first developing a solid work ethic. A lot of it comes from obseriving others, particularly those in front of you or higher than you like parents and what not. If you have parents who bust ass or are lazy ass, it could have a continued effect on you or reversed. Like, if you see your parents are lazy, you might just choose to be lazy because you may follow in their steps OR you could could see that this is actually a descructive qaulity and choose to change it. If your parents bust, you may see value in working hard and thus follow in their steps OR feel intimidated by the task and choose to sit out on the side lines, per se. So, I dunno, with that said, alot of it is choice and perception on your part...which could also pre-determined.

I killed a lawn mower at an early age.

I really enjoy when I fix something that someone else could not.dont like to stop till I'm done.
Just like my dad

It is instilled as you grow up by your parents. My dad never missed work nor my grandfather who raised 9 kids on a truck driver's wages. I rarely miss work maybe 1 or 2 days a year where I'm sent home for coming in sick.

word im the same way

iv always been pretty accademically gifted and my parents pushed me hard from an early age.

i went through a period from like grades 7-10 where i could get straight A's without doing any homework at home (all in calss as soon as i get it) and never studying for tests....that pretty much beat my work ethic into the ground and i cant do any work ever. its partially senioritis but also partially me just being super lazy and last minute now. i feel like im constantly high in reguards to work and even when im "worried" about it, i dont give aa shit. when i get too much work for me to handle in a night, instead of selecting some, i just dont do ANY work and end up having a free night

You are identical to me lol especially how you handle the work lol.

It is most definitely learned. I was a classic underachiever until I finally failed grade 7. My mother had actually begged previous teachers to fail me. My grade 6 teacher thought I was retarded. Grade 7 to 11 were transitional years. Then starting while I was in the army I got competitive. When I was in basic training I was in the middle third of the class. By the time I left the army I was #1 or #2 in every course I took. Every class I've been in since, I've always been near the top. I didn't beat my lethargic nature, but I subdued it a lot.

I was the same way in highschool. College was a shock. Took me a whole year (maybe 2) to figure out what I need to do.
