I don't think most people truly believe it. But rumors are spread by communicating and the internet joins many people that normally wouldn't talk. So it may seem like people believe it, but I honestly don't think they do. At least the smart people don't.

i really liked your post about how people are actually more real on the internet, i agree with what you said

The internet is no different than real life. There are bullshitters, liars, conspiracy theories, hustlers, con artists, etc. in real life and they are on the net. Just keep your guard up and sift through it.

The only difference is that the internet makes the world smaller, thus the B.S. spreads at a faster pace and further than your neighborhood or local paper.

I never see Joe Unabomber in real life tho, basement dwellers galore adorned in tinfoil hats now have an outlet for thier paranoia (other than HAM radio).

No, you didn't, they weren't part of your community/social network. Similar to scammers going from playing three card monty on the corner to creating phish sites.

Look at EF. I can honestly say that many of the people on this board would not be part of my social circle. I don't mean that in a snobby kind of way. For example, I doubt my path would have crossed Foreigngirl's path or someone from her background in real life. It was interesting to find out that we have a lot in common. Who would have guessed 2 years ago, that I would be building a friendship with someone in Alaska?

With the Internet, you are forced (whether you want to or not) to interact with people you would have never had a conversation with in real life or come across mind-numbing text that you can avoid in real life.

I agree that that is the case, but is this melding of abstract thought good for us as a whole or is it detrimental to the common good?

I think it is good for us as a whole. It forces us to think and ask questions. It introduces us to theories (no matter how silly they are) that we would not have come across living in our own little worlds.

Again using EF as an example, how many times have you read something and thought, OMFG, people actually think this way? Or, how many times have you said, WOW, I never thought of it that way?

It makes us less naive about what (people, theories, thoughts, art, etc.) is out there. That said, it is still our personal responsibility to sift through everything and throw away the B.S. and keep the truth (which, thanks to Internet can be questioned by others).

lol, I used to do that to people, make a post to rile them up and then never return to the thread to read the responses

my point was the common sentiment is to seek
"two hearts that beat as one"
I'm of the opinion that if I find two minds that beat as one I'll be happy

what if you find
two minds that beat as one
but who's hearts think differently?

that would suck.

so what do you think redguru wants me to send him two of, of which color does not matter?

that makes sense.
I think its how most people work
At least, it has been for me.

i don't know what that has to do with me reading minds and sending redguru two of them.

i should send him 2 black minds?
black minds, or minds from black people?

i'm really having a hard time fulfilling his request. which is odd, being that i can read minds.

I'm thinking about them now.

if that's too difficult I'll make an easier request to fulfill

I'm of the opinion that a lot of people are more real on the net than in real life. They post / type what they can't say in real life. For better or worse I'm not a believer in "internet personas." I think that more often than not, that's the way you really feel, and just can't express it in today's society.

I mirrored your sentiments in a bikinimom thread
her position is the internet is bullshit
and she makes it quite well
