This is far fetched. Arguing that the worlds most technologically and financially advanced society just happens not to think about global issues, which, ironically, necessate significant cash expenditures for their resolution, is wishfull thinking.

Most Americans, or for that matter, Canadians, Europeans, or Saudi's dont give a shit about third world poverty because its human nature to be greedy and provide for yourself even after all your needs have been met.

i did not qoute your whole post buddy, but it was a very good post with solid points. i just think your putting to much on people. i believe a majority of americans just do not think as deep into it as you and that they are not living high on the hog as you would believe.

buddy, i said most people dont think about patriotism and third world countries' problems. ie. a water purification system in ethiopia. not global issues. and the main point i tried to make, is that most people do not make the connection between patriotism and compassion for third world countries' problems. they just dont think that.

as far as being greedy, so what are you saying, after you buy lifes neccesities just deposit the rest into the UN bank account. live as meagerly as possible.

last comment, there will always be someone living in the desert and wondering why he doesnt have fresh water to drink. no matter how much money you throw at em.

really, my last comment, who's to say that technological and finacial advancement is the way anyhow. leave these countries be and stop trying to force advancment on them. there's nonthing wrong with that, it can be a burden.

I hear you. I compilied a nice long post tonight, but have yet to put it on the boards. Needs alittle more work.

Youd be surprised sponge how little money, Im talking very little, is required to eradicate once and for all global malnutrition. And no this isnt a World Vision advertisment :)

To address your last two comments.

1) Global starvation can be completely eradicated if a small percentage of citizens in developed nations participated in financially supporting malnurished persons. Small percentage no more than 10-20% of the top wage earners in Western Europe, Canada, and America who are not already financially supporting global charities.

2) Although I agree, its unethical to alter a foreign societies culture and value system using our own culture as a subjective reference --- a real and serious problem still exists.

We have 34,000 children *dying* everyday due to starvation. Those are real lives. If we can change that, why not? Vacinations for polio, educational programs, even housing and fresh water requirements are relativily inexpensive compared to any global cost standard.

Most people dont beleive we can change anything, and I used to believe it too. I dont expect you to believe me based on this post here, but once i get done some of this weeks work, Ill finish it up and you can take a look at the 'figs' :)

Im outtie for tonight.
