personally i think marraiges are worse nowdays....too many alternatives, competition, too many distractions.... life is so fast paced, expensive-disposable. I feel that we have lost value of human nature and we dont spend the time we need to to get to know and understand who we are with/ not only that but with ourselves more importantly....we worry more about the surface and how 'it' looks rather than whats up inside....

When I was a kid, the guy who sprayed down the vegetables in the supermarket could afford to own a house and support a stay-at-home wife and kids. The competition and pressure it takes to keep up with today's lifestyle expectations pretty much requires both partners in a marriage to work. I think this causes stress to rise to levels that many marriages can't survive.

the stresses of todays world and the uncertainty of security are huge factors...you are correct, however this is only a fraction of the equation....i think this siuation puts many in a survival mode, thus creating a "live for the moment" type of mentality- again, marriage being a proposition for the long haul, will not sustain...

The more I think about marriage the more I want it even though im a long way off it. Im not phased I can spend the rest of my life with a woman that I love, always wanted children 1 boy 1 girl if Im lucky.

It's just that divorce and cheating scare the crap out of me, those are the two things that would shatter me completely and I've already witnessed one of them first hand, dont want to go through that again.
