Like if you buy a good TV/DVD player/Stereo like Sony from best buy ?

I think they are scams, for instance........ I just got this portable DVD player for 300 bucks and the buyer protection plan for four years is $80 plus tax.

you already have the Sony warranty for one year, why would you buy the four year plan ? they wouldnt offer them if best buy didnt make major profits on these plans.

what do you guys think ?

if you do not use your warranty you can return it within the 3 years for a portion of your money back.

I repair & sell electronics, the manufacturers warrenty i can say offers enough time to cover the burn in peroid,if you do not have a problem during that time then you are home free.
Extended service contracts are like gambling,a bet to see if the item makes it thru the contract if it does then the store offering not only made a profit off of the item sold but an extra bonus off of the contract!

Depends on the item.

Electronics - no, but I bet some people that bought the first plasma TVs wish they had the extended warranty.

Vehicles - yes, but they can be expensive. But so are repairs.

Furniture - Hell no.

Appliances - no.

I am not even going to bother responding to you, you just want attention... I know you have a crush on me anyway.

At appliance stores, NEVER.

On cars, sometimes. The peace of mind that comes with an extended warranty on a car is often times worth it.

If something electrical 3 or 4 years old dies on me, I'm more likely to chuck and replace if I can't fix it myself. Some items are practically antiques at that age.

i never buy that. your chances of actually using are too slim.

Plasmas suck. DLP is the way to go these days.
