???are Cottonballs Sterile?????

I was reading about abcesses and was thinking about me swabbing my injection site...but are cotton balls sterile? I mean hell, I could be wiping a bunch of bacteria mixed with liquid (alcohol) over the site...bad idea...? Anyone ever think of this??

Also, does anyone clean the tops of their amps (like the yellow top decas) with alcohol for *120* seconds? The time it takes to kill bacteria supposedly..what about when you use tissue to pop open a sust amp? That's not sterile...a piece of toilet paper could easily fall in there...AHHHHHH GERMS GERMS GERMS EVERYWHERE!!!

Try using pretreated swabs. At cvs for 2 dollars they sell a box of 100 pretreated swabs. Very cheap. Ive noticed myself even using them to clean up zits too.

Acne? Well if you use facial acne swabs they are not sterile. I am talking about individually sealled small square swabs. They will kill bacteria which can help cause spots so I guess they would be OK for it.

Ummm yeah uhh...I'm using 4 grams of deca a week but only 500 mgs. of sust...I don't understand why my damn dick doesn't work....wow...I've gained 3 cups sizes in 2 weeks already though...


Anyway, that's a good and obvious idea, I just bought a box of generic "Cotton Balls" and it just occured to me...I'll try and find some sterile swabs later...

The best thing to do is to get the Sterilized Alcohol Wipes.

These come in a box of like 100. Each is in a small, seled wrapper. Open it up, and you get a small cooton or cloth wipe, soaked in alcohol, and sterile.

They are available over the counter at pharmacies, even in states where needles are not sold OTC.

Just walk in, get a box.

These are the best. Use one to wipe off the tops of your vials before withdrawing (ahhhhhh ....... didnt think of that one - did ya?), and another for final cleansing/disinfecting of the injection site.

Smal, cheap, clean, neat, effective.

Much better than cotton balls, and a big bottle of alcohol.

I use the toilet paper to swab the area after I take a shit and wipe my ass with it, gets a little extra protein in the injection site helps it heal up nicley !

Really you too eh? I also like to lubricate the needle with saliva and/or armpit sweat before injection...

There is no need to swab the injection site (unless you have no hygiene).

On your skin you have what is called 'resident flora' ; bacteria that is neither helpfull or harmfull, however, they do kill off a great deal of the other bacteria, there keeping the skin reasonbly clear of harmfull bacteria.

Now when you put alchohol on (which by the way takes about 3 minutes to kill bacteria) it destroys this flora as well as any other bacteria.

Now the problem is after you have injected the skin is open and as there is no protection from the resident flora the bacteria from your environment (ie trousers, underwear.....) will cause bacteria to be introduced into the open site and you leave yourself open to a higher chance of infection

I suppose that you could put a sterile waterproof dressing on after but this is really OTT (unless you were using the I/V route).

Anyway, hope this helps.

I've got a question for you fellas...when you puncture the top of your vial with a drawing needle for instance, aren't you risking infection even if you wipe the rubber off...I mean, a piece of rubber just doesn't seem to sterile to me, even after I've cleaned it off.

Also, does the possibility exist that a piece of rubber could enter the drawing needle on the way in?

It's not possible...Unless you are using a cannon! (12 gauge or something). And it's just the surface of the rubber that can get dirty. Just wipe it off with alcohol!

Pun you can also use one to draw it out, and one for the injection, since the rubber does dull the tip a slight bit.

I ask you ....... when was the last time you went to any Doctor, for any injection, and had them NOT clean ths site with alcohol?

Get those wipes, they are cheap, and effective.

Dude, I assist in surgery. All you need to do is wipe the top of the vial with an alcohol pad. Not for 120 seconds, just a few times. Wash the area thoroughly, dry and wipe with an alcohol pad in a circular motion. Just don't contaminate the needle.
