Anyone work with very short rest periods?

I've been using the heavy weight/long rest period method for a long time now, from next week my training partner and I are switching to 8x8 with 30 seconds rest for four weeks, just wondering what I can expect from this?

Shorter rest periods will yield more fatloss. It will be like circut training.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using EliteFitness

Love it, been training this way for years with great results.......

It's a nice change, especially when you move from a bulking routine with longer rest periods and heavier weights. If you control your carbs you can see some nice cutting.

Thats great, thanks for the feedback, I'm cutting currently, we've hit some PR's and a bit of a wall on the heavy weights this last week, using the last four weeks of our cycle to rip up and hopefully gain a little lean mass too, I'm lookin forward to this

fat burning for sure.

work outs will be quicker and more intense , cardio will be a thing of the past .

Cardio really is overrated. Think of it this way. You run on a treadmill for 30-60 min. And it shows you cals burned per hour right? Ok so basically depending on speed it like maybe 180-300. Heres the thing it takes 3500 cal burned to lose one pound of fat. So if u ran every day after ur workout you would burn on the high end 2100 cals during "cardio" so in two weeks thats 1.3lbs of fat. True weight loss. Now add this. If your bmr is 2500 and you trim your diet to 1800 a day thats 700 cals a day deficient. On 7 days that 4900 cal or 1.65 lbs lost. Weight lifting burns 560 cals per hour. Cardio only helps stamina nothing more. So why not lift the same heavy weights but shorten ur intervals trim some of the cals u eat and you would see the fat fly off you. While still getting stronger. And your workout will b intense and powerful. And ur cardio fix is in the short interval rest. When i say short its how fast can you guys change positions from lifter to spotter and vise versa.

^i do agree that cardio SHOULD be unnecessary for men... get a hard ass working job where you are on your feet all day and you will get plenty of that while getting paid... ive got gym buddies that shovel for the city and im a union warehouseman and we are leaner than there dudes that do a couple hours of cardio and eat cleaner because for their job they sit on their asses all day... more rewarding and union/city jobs still pay great...

Short rests between sets will make your workout seem 10 times harder even though you will have to use less weight.
I need to do more of that, as I need cardiovascular health more than I need strength.

That's cool for you but most guys just don't have jobs that will ever get their heart rates up enough to be considered a cardio workout.
And you are young. After a few years of that the desk job will sound much more appealing to you. (and pay more). :)

been workin my ass off for 15+ years bro... i think most guys just dont have the work ethic to the heart rate up, trust me, i work with those guys... there is plenty of work in this world, you can even start your own business and make a killing doing hard work, which we are also doing...

I do short rests between each of my rest, pause sets as part of DC training and I love it.

Do a set of 7-10, rest for 20 seconds, do another 3-4 reps, rest for 20 seconds, and do a final 1-2 reps for a total of 11-15 reps in the rest pause set all done with slow negatives and strict form.

The result is me gaining a stupid amount of strength in the last few months I've been doing it and a good amount of mass too.

Well bros today was the first workout and man it was awesome! The weights had to be very light but the intensity was crazy... rest periods between sets ranged from 10-20 seconds, we moved from one exercise to the next with no more rest than that and by the time 8x8 was done for five exercises we were both out of breath and so pumped could barely move! My girlfriend rang me on my way out of the gym and I had a hard time holding my phone to my ear lol... Looking forward to seeing the results of this over a few weeks : )
