anyone try this quibids.com bidding site yet?

The thing is to even think about winning you have to have no life (sorry feedz). It's like 1 credit per bid and a credit is like 60 cents or something.

So that camera lens for 1300x.60=$780+$13=$793 they got for that lens. and you have to have the patience to keep bidding and wait everyone else out.

They can eat shit.

I dont need to do shit. You just let your comp automatically bid for you.

yeah, but how many bids did you have in that lens?

Unless you jumped in at the very end you had a chunk of change in it

I don't believe you. Go bid for me and prove it.

keep in mind EVERY bid you place costs you like 60 cents plus whatever the end selling price is.

so in 13.00 there is 1300 bids. If you only placed 100 bids that is 60 bucks there, plus the 13 bucks in the sold price. so you'd have 73 dollars in the lens.

No idea what a lens costs, but again it's not as good of a deal as you first think when you see shit selling for 5-10-25 bucks.

miplank dropping some knowledge

NPR (laff) did a piece on this as well and came to the exact same conclusion

You may get lucky, but most people aren't saving that much money, if at all

Go to a damn real auction if you're looking for deals :)

quibids actually has it in fine print somewhere that if you use all of your credits on an Item and don't win you can purchase it at full retail price. lol

That's as sketchy as tithing.

i don't understand your math there copernicus...how do you know how many people were bidding on it??

because the bidding increments are in pennies.

1300 pennies in 13 dollars homeskillet.

1 bid=1 cent

1 bid takes 1 credit

1 credit costs 60 cents

yeah...i kinda made the connection after i made that comment...so, how much did afeedz actually pay (beyond the $13)...i.e., how many times did she bid on the lens? (obviously, i'm asking her not you)...i'm just curious how many "credits" it took. also, i'm kinda curious as to whether any of these sites collect and remit sales tax on these sales and, if so, what do they calculate the tax on, the $13 or the $793? my guess is that everyone is getting fucked on these sales...well...except the auction site.

Yeah...still pissed I didn't think of it.

I'd also imagine there isn't much overhead as they're probably not purchasing these products until they sell.

that being the case, how do you suppose they decide what to put in the "showroom" each day??

I hit up the auction at the end so that I wasn't bidding from the beginning, that'd be stupid. I spent $13 on this lens, though I know quibids profited much more than that, but that's not my problem.

The system only sucks if you lose the bid war, because then you spent money and didn't get anything.

But I don't lose, sooo I don't see a problem in the system.

i don't see a problem with it (necessarily) either...so, you're saying that you only bid once, right at the end, and you snagged the lens for $13 plus one credit ($.60) or, your total bid (including credits) was $13??

also, i looked at the site once and it seemed to me that the auctions are "timed" but, when people bid at the end it adds more time on and it will keep doing this until everyone gets tired and quits or runs out of credits (i.e., money) and the last one left standing after everyone else has been soaked is the "winner". oh and, the "winning bid" figure only includes the pennies and not the credits (usury fee)...even for the winner...that, i do have a problem with...it's just simply not true...not even remotely true...in fact, calling it a "lie" would be a complete disservice to the art lying...in fact, i would be willing to bet that the level of usury would fall within the criminal code in many states.

fuck no...I'd do that shit in a second.

I outta open up a site that only charges like 40 cents per credit or something.

Yeah, the final amount you purchase it for isn't including how much you spent bidding on it. My $13 was the price I ended up paying + the money I spent on bids, though. I've only done it once, but it worked out for me.

I wouldn't necessarily be willing to do it often, the chances of losing money are obviously much higher than winning the item.
