Like many other people In America I have been dealing with slight to moderate depression for quite awhile. I get a feeling of emptyness and sadness that I can't really control sometimes. I don't want to go on prescription anti depressents. I just started taking st jons wort a few days ago. I feel like I can tell a bit of difference. Anyone else have success with this?

Study Shows St. John's Wort Ineffective for Major Depression of Moderate Severity [NCCAM News and Events]

An extract of the herb St. John's wort was no more effective for treating major depression of moderate severity than placebo, according to research published in the April 10 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

St John's Wort is better for focusing,i take it on long trips,it tends to perk me up.

Its not too effective for depression. There is no disgrace in taking an anti-depressant. There are new ones out there today that are very effective for mood stabilization. Cymbalta is one of the best. It takes a while to get used to but the benefits are amazing if you stick with it for a few months

Sorry to hear that bro!!

however, as stated before " there is no shame" in taking pills... Most ppl do not need to take them for ever.. just a short time.. Also, I have thought about taking to a psychologist.. Sometimes just having someone to listen to you can work wonders.>!!

Blessings,

Whatever you decide to do, I just wanted to say that you are taking a big step by acknowledging your depression openly. There are so many people dealing with depression, and you are not alone.
We spend so much time thinking about our physical health, and sometimes don't attend to our mental health as much.
I used to work as a facilitator in tandem with a local hospital for the promotion of mental health for youth, and I saw many people in immediate crisis, who had not dealt with their mental health when it first became a problem. I noticed how many people felt so alone and without hope. It's not too late to get help, and you don't have to do it alone.
I think it's really important to share any questions you might have about mental health with a professional, whether it's a counselor, doctor, or whatever.
Then you can decide what treatment may be best for you.
There are many options that do not use drugs whatsoever.
I am not in the States, but from what I see, these are interesting links you might find helpful:
