anyone track their diet using a computer program???

I am looking to track my diet (i.e. cals/prot/carbs/fat for each meal) on the computer. Does anyone else do this and what program do you use? I am thinking Excel might be a good choice.

thanks.

I use a program called Crosstrainer. It can be found at Crosstrainer.ca. It is really good for tracking diet and workout.

Man.....use www.fitday.com

If you know your food values anyway, you can input custom foods yourself and it saves them. Then, everyday when you eat, you can just go down the list and click it. You can then change the amounts, etc. There's also a food "search" if your not sure about values.

You get a pie chart for your Pro/carb/fat ratios, and a breakdown of EVERYTHING. The best part is that you can get to it from any computer.

I'm trying to cycle my bulking ratios (wo days/ off days), and this really helps.

LISTEN TO ME!!! AND LISTEN CAREFULY BRO!

The absolutly BEST adviceI can give you is to buy a program called Pocket Diet Tracker. It's an amazing(!!!!) program for the Pocket PC (I hope you have one, and if not go and buy one! even used). Previously to using this program I used word and excel. BAD options! They consumed too much time to me, especially if you want variety in your diet!

This program has a big large database of predifined foods. Also, the greatest this is that you can enter you own foods and portions. You just take a look a food label and enter it into this intelligent program. I have entered many custom foods and cannot say enough about this. I can eat a different thing everyday. In fact, I don't have a fixed menu. You can just 'build' your menu on the fly by entering the data as you eat. This will allow you always to stay in touch with your log and see exactly what you ate, when you ate it, and what where the carb/fat/protein rations, sodium intake etc. It can also calculate the fat percentage loss and some other forumals there, but I just use the food database and log. I built several fixed menus to several friends this way within minutes, asking each what he likes and build it for him. I use a small electronic food scale(with a 1gram accuracy) that allows me to measure every food. This way, no one can beat my logs! I can tell you what exactly I ate on 11/21/2002 at 8:00am!, the calories are super precise if you also use a scale, the only thing that can cause inaccuracy this way is the manufacturer itself misleading labels, nothing else.

Excel for me. Works really well the way I have the equations set up.

I can share it with you if you would like.

definitely broly, appreciate it. should I PM you with my email addy?

I will put it on my FTP server tonight. You can modify it to include your own foods - right now it just has pro complex, oats, flax oil, and dextrose.

I use Excel and highly suggest to all my clients they do the same due to the fairly easy cutomizable features. However, fitday.com has been a fairly good tool. As a side note, Pocket Diet Tracker is not convinient, I found the thing too small and sat on it, breaking it - but yes it is a good tool overall.

Ok - You can add your own diet items by following the format for the other ingredients. Each one you add will require you to edit the total fields. The DEFINING field is grams con (as in grams consumed). Grams per is grams per serving and the following fields are based on a single 'serving.'

I will probably work up versions of this to make it easier, but it's pretty straightforward if you have a basic understanding of XLS.

If you have any questions, just ask.
