Anyone read MILO?

Seems like an amazing journal (4 issues a year for $45, I think). It's a 6x9 hardcover journal w/ 128 pages. Covers weightlifting, powerlifting, highland games stuff, grip training, gen'l training advice, etc. It also has interviews w/ professionals in each field, etc. I've asked for a subscription for my bday coming up. LoL

Click on the "articles by topic" link that's about halfway down on the righthand side. And if you click on the "table of contents" and then select an issue, you'll get an idea of the topics covered. Seems like pretty damn useful advice if you're into weightlifting, oly-stuff, etc.

*edit: I know you're all a bunch of lazy bastards so I've cut & pasted the TOC from the latest issue.

Cover: Ilya Ilin (Kazakhstan) called for 216 kg, took a big swing, hit it out of the park, and won the 85-kg class at the 2005 World W/L Championships.

Looks interesting, not that I'll have a shortage of reading material soon. BW, did you subscribe from IronMind or from somewhere in the UK?

IronMind, although I'm fairly certain that I was charged double for the postage. They seem to charge postage based on the value of your order and there was a surcharge built into the price of MILO for the overseas postage. As such, a local supplier might be cheaper.

MILO is a great read, I'd recommend it to anybody. Actually, if something like that was readily available at super market newsstands and Barnes & Noble and Borders type places, I think you'd see a lot less stupidity in the gym.

Exactly. I mean, when someone like Glenn Pendlay starts helping folks on the 'net, people's ears perk up and we're taking notes. I think people on the 'net are starved for decent training advice. Instead, they go to Flex, Ron Coleman, and Joe Dipshit on BB.com who started w/ good genetics & supp'd w/ AAS and then gives advice. Truth is, solid, useful advice isn't "sexy." But stuff like MILO will go a long way, hopefully, toward helping me coach myself over the years to come.

Milo is a great read. www.elitefts.com is also a great site packed with information on training.

There is also purepowermag. They have a great magazine which is basically functional strength and strength sports.

Nothing beats Glenns's personal advise on here.

PurePower went defunct a while back and is sometime to be replaced with JOPP, Journal of Pure Power. I recently got an email from them saying to reply to attempt to claim a free subscription in lieu of the discontinued PurePower one.

PurePower used to hold a directory of some of its best articles. It was a shame they pulled that off the 'Net. One of their finest was an article on the comparison between full, half and quarter squats. I never saw their pulling article online. That was a great issue.

You know, I remember a couple of years ago when we both posted that article. I just might have a copy somewhere to post again in PDF.

Do you remember the article they used to have on deadlifting and body types?

We travel in the same circles my friend.

Just got my subscription and already received my first issue -- the one I posted the TOC to above.

It's very cool! Lots of olympic lifting coverage, and just all sorts of other 'strength athelete' type stuff. Actually pretty good bit of inspiration for this home-gymer.
