Anyone know anything about the Biology CLEP Exam?

I'm planning to CLEP out of General Biology since I'm a CS major and don't want to waste 3 months in the class... the only problem is I can't find a specific book that is JUST for the General Bio. I see those "5 tests in one" books that cover a bunch of CLEP exams and is 700 pages, but I don't think it would cover 1 particular exam with the detail necessary to help me do well.

Anybody know of a good CLEP book for bio?

Oh... and any of you who may have taken a CLEP exam for college, how difficult is a score of 49? Apparently the score ranges from 20 to 80, and 49 is the minimum score I need for credit, which is just barely 50% on that scale. I find that odd that the score would be so low. Is a 49 more difficult than it seems?

Thanks,
-Warik

(P.S. Happy please hold your amusing commentary until after someone has given me a good answer... else we will go off on a tangent and I will leave here with nothing. :()

I did it with text books. Just picked up a couple semester's worth of "Intro to Biology" type books at the local univeristy bookstore, and used those. I used the chapter tests as an evaluation.

is the clep test universal, or does it vary from university to university. is it directly coorelated to the info taught in the class, or is it 'general' bio info.

either way, if you can't find one i'd find out what textbook Bio class uses. Then get the syllabus & a study guide (most bio books have a study guide). Just use the study guide & syllabus to figure out what you need to learn.

I don't know about them being the same. I know I came out almost a year ahead by testing out of foreign languages because they're worth 10 credit hours an exam, for taking both semesters combined in one test. Cha-ching!

The tests are cheaper than taking the class. Study ahead and max out your CLEP capabilities. Saves time and money.

This is off topic. but are you smart, or do you just study alot. I don't get it. Getting a B.S. in biochem & a B.S. in engineering at the same time.

Anyway warik, i'd recommend getting a syllabus from your biology class, the official study guide & learn the main ideas of the chapters. You should pass doing that.

When I started college, I was 16. I knew I wouldn't be staying at any university or college near me...I would transfer to another University an hour away. So I was concurrently enrolled in 18 hours at 3 colleges, plus I CLEP'ed out of 40 hours, and took a couple courses through home-study/extention...whatever you call it. I ended up clearing out 3 years in about 2 regular semesters and 2 summer semesters. I was motivated by moving out of my parent's house. lol. When I finally reached the University 1 1/2 yrs later, I was a senior.

The first two years were a joke. Heck, everything up until senior year genetics was a joke.
