Anyone here use netflix?

If so, why?

Are you going to continue using it?

Would you use it in the future if you are not using it now?

Is the service good? Fast, good quality, value for money?

If you would not use it, again why not?

Thanks, karma hits for responses.

Hey bound...I was talking about this with a couple co workers last week. I haven't used it so take this with a grain of salt but they both said it was decently priced but the movie selection was poor. There seemed to a few favorites that appealed to them but not a big selection. Both had tried it and then gotten out.

it's brilliant. just amazing. although i wish i would of bought a ton of the stock back in 2008 when I first subscribed to it.

get the free trial at least bound. go to the site.

if you need any recommendations tell me a few movies/shows you like and i can give you hundreds of suggestions.

happy viewing!

Netflix is cutting into DVD sales which is why the studios are very hesitant to lend full support to netflix. And the tv networks are VERY scared of netflix encouraging "cord cutting" and dong away with cable. So they only put old ass shows on there for now. You're gonna find a very very tough migration for intrenet content on tv's. Too much at stake and no one wants to ruin the status quo (your $90/month cable bill). So unlike mobile phones, tablets, etc. - don't expect innovation to move at light speed on tv's. Heck, even google tv got owned and they had to pull google tv back cuz the studios/networks told google to f.off. for now.

Well that just served me a dose of STFU, lol.

I was thinking of shorting this stock.

I think I have to check them out now to see what all the hype is about.

Hey Bound,

I used it for 3 months and it seemed like I had seen all of the ones I was interested in so I cancelled it. Its a very nice deal, because you just order and it arrives in the mail in 2 days.

I'm waiting till better content comes to Canada. If it had a better TV selection, I would cancel my cable in a flash. Waiting to put the PS3 to good use.

I canceled it after a month. I was hoping to find some good, older movies that I've always wanted to see but haven't, and I couldn't find any. Their movie selection seemed to be filled with a lot of garbage such as "When in Rome" for comedies, "XXX" for action, and I didn't notice anything special for drama. The Shawshank Redemption was the only older movie on there that I noticed that was top of the line. They had a decent TV selection, but I never watch TV so I didn't really care about that. I can just torrent movies in 1080p and watch what I want from now on.

I have cable and redbox, that's all I need... I do not like Netflix, really old selection, takes forever to get releases....

they have practically every critically acclaimed flick from every genre

The other big issue is movie studios are VERY cautious at helping Netflix become so huge since this area is so lucrative and powerful (eg: iTunes has become the #1 source of selling music and the record comapnies are pissed cuz apple now controls their industry and they stupidly let them).

It costs netflix around 5c for HD and 3c for SD to stream a video (through akamai). The studios are secretly working on their own "netflix" to offer newly released movies and tv shows and make a lot of profit and cut out Netflix. They've learned from iTunes and want to have control. Same thing with google - the studios hate the cable companies and want to avoid a simliar system with online content. Last thing studios want is another 'cable price hijacking' type mexican standoff with content owners & providers.

Not to mention, licensing is a BITCH. Nothing like a movie from 1985 showing up on Netflix, and everyone from the actors to the writers immediately calling their lawyers, agents & studios to see if they should be getting a % cut. Legal nightmare. Now you konw why studios want to control everything from theater to your tv.

Netflix is good, Hulu is good, but expect many more competitors to enter this area very soon. In other sad news: blockbuster's days are limited.

not sure what y'all are complaining about regarding the selection of films. is there a single service that has a better selection? for TV, it might suck, but i don't know what to compare it to...haven't tried other content services.

i use it, although i have some discs that have been sitting around for a while. i use instant through my PS3 usually, or download torrents.

my impression is that they've added a bunch of titles for instant streaming over the last few months (can't substantiate this w/o doing searches, though). with the recent advent of direct/discless support for the PS3, dolby 5.1 sound, and apparently 1080p (although there's no way they can stream true full HD over a typical home connection), it's even better.

p.s. be careful shorting netflix. just don't do it. i haven't done that myself, but i might have if i hadn't lost all my money shorting other crap. :)

here's a good article on the new "ultraviolet" system being created by the studios and vendors. In case you're wondering why the studios are ignoring netflix for now. They got something bigger in development:

UltraViolet Could Mean You'll Really 'Own' That Movie - PCWorld

The system is supposed to work like this: Starting this summer, participating companies like Netflix and Best Buy will start selling DVDs and digital downloads marked with the UltraViolet logo. Consumers are supposed to go home, set up a free UltraViolet account online and register their new purchase there, perhaps with a numerical code.

That creates their UltraViolet "digital locker" -- a place where information is stored about each creative work they own. Each household will be able to register up to six people to a digital locker. They must also register up to 12 hardware devices where they will be able to play their UltraViolet movies and TV shows.

They'll then be able to watch that content on any of those devices, as well as on any participating streaming media and cable service, regardless of where they bought the content. So if they bought a movie on DVD from Best Buy, for example, they should be able to watch it streamed to their Xbox console once they have entered the code to show they own it in their digital locker.

They should also be able to watch their content away from home, in a hotel with a video on demand service, for example. So if they bought the first series of "Glee" on Netflix, they'll be able to watch it while on vacation if the video on demand service at the hotel is an UltraViolet member.
