I've always had a passion for percussions. I've become a pretty kick ass bongo player over the last 5 years and decided I was ready to grow. I found a kick ass starter kit on craigalist and am loving it so far. Where my drummers at?

Check out Dave Weckl's instructional videos. He starts with the basics, like how to hold a stick. Even something that basic, most guys get wrong.

I will for sure, appreciate the resource! I've been watching a few already along with some books. I'm thinking about lessons too but we'll see, I've always been self taught on everything so I'm a bit of a snob, lol.

All you really need is a bass drum, snare, hihat, one rack tom, one floor tom, two crash cymbals and a ride. If you can't say it with that then maybe it doesn't really need to be said.

Oh, and vintage American-made drums are the shit, especially Ludwigs, keystone or olive.

I have a Ludwig bass and two top rack toms, a pearl floor tom and high hat hardwear, tama double bass pedal and a zildjian crash, ride and high hat cymbols. My snare is a cheapy though but after tuning I've managed to make it sound decent.

There's a lot of Weckl's stuff on Youtube.

Yup, after you mentioned him I've been watching all of his stuff. Only thing I don't like is that all of his lessons are taught with him using traditional left handed stick grip where I prefer a match grip. He is very thorough though and definitely knows his shit.

When I was in grade school I BEGGED to play the drums. My mom told me it wasn't feminine and absolutely forbid it. I LOVE drums.

If anything I would want to learn to play piano/keyboard

I thought the same thing. My fiancé plays so we got this top of the line electric piano and I tried it out for a solid month, practicing for hours everyday. I would now consider drums and piano to be the hardest instruments to master. Piano requires a certain dexterity that I just didn't have...but yea if I could wake up tomorrow and master ANY instrument it would be piano hands down.

yeah, I never even get that far because I try to learn to read music and decide i'm too ADD to teach myself.

Do you think the drums and the piano are harder to master than the guitar??

Raises hand. Just a shade above the average drummer, but nothing special. Just love to play is all :)
