Anyone here ever run in a marathon?

I ran my fisrt 26.2 mile marathon last Sunday at the San Antonio Rock and Roll Marathon. I can't get over the fun, motivation, and excitement of the crowds and bands playing. Give it a shot some day. Marathons are challenging but do-able if you learn a good pace for yourself.

My time was 3hrs 52min 30seconds (8:53 mile clip). Not bad for a first time out. I plan to run in the Austin, Texas Marathon in February. Hopefully bring my time down a notch. Next year or two I hope to qualify for the Boston!

Congrats brah... My ex just finished a half marathon. I didn't find out how she did... I don't care.. LOL
Yeah, good for U.
I grew up in the midwest and would get in like 30 - 40 miles a week.
I cut back like to 20- 30 up to age 24. Then after undergrad enlisted in the Navy and treadmill is not the same, but like at 27 started up again at like 40 miles/week and got peroneal nerve damage.
I had to stop running after surgery and got bad real bad runners depression
I can only run like 3/4 miles then left leg goes to sleep.
Sucks, elliptical is all I do now.
Did You worry bout pacin yourself, and then after 8 it was cake and then U got a lil fatigued around like 20?
Thats a common thing I hear bout.
Now U gotta do the IronMan... LOL

I feel for ya man. Yes, I would be depressed if I could not run. Once you get in a routine it's hard to let go. Kinda like runners addiction. I got a bit fatigued after mile 20, but that was mostly out of my own ignorance/inexperience. I was running along good with my pace group up to mile 18, then said to myself "You are a bad ass who can run 8, 8-minute miles easy in training." Well the folks I passed from mile 18-20 ended up passing me after mile 22. Next time I'll leave my ego at the start line.

Lambster that is something that would probably happen to me, and only after the 3 or 4 marathons would I figure it out to leave the ego at the door.
Congrats bro.
I know U got like a regimen that varied the week mileage but how high did your 'peak week' have U go?

Congrats on your first marathon! But I would rather do a dick-in-a-vice-athon than run 26+ miles.

+1. I've done 4-5 100 mile bike rides but I'd rather be dragged by my toenails over broken glass than do a marathon.

I've done 3 full and about 8 half marathons. You're right, the last five miles are definitely the toughest. I found keeping a consistent pace from start to finish was very key to finishing strong, because all of the idiots who blaze out ahead in the first half are walking by 21 miles.

Great time for your first one too - I have done a 1:38 half but always during a full my times never stand up.
