My new girl gets them and seems poorly educated as to things and tricks to combat them, anyone know of any?

apparently cheese, coffee and dark chocolate set her off

There's lidocaine nasal drops that cure it instantly, or special pills that cost about $40 bucks a pop that also do it.

I used to get them bad during my late teens/early 20s. I had the textbook tunnel vision, vomiting, and vertigo. I had trouble even speaking during an attack. The one thing that pisses me off is ppl that have a bad headache, and moan that they have a migrane, they have no idea what one feels like.

Both need a script from a doctor. I always said screw it, popped a couple painkillers and curled up in the fetal position for a half day.

Everytime I attempt to decipher one of your rambling jumbled posts

Migranes are typically triggered by food or hormonal changes. Wheat is what triggers them in me. Have her try eliminating those foods one by one to see whats really causing them. Also, when estrogen and progestrone drop mid cycle in women ( after ovulation) migranes can be triggered also. Good luck!

I used to get real bad migraines (are there good migraines?) a lot when I was younger. Now I'll get them only a few times a year. I used to take imitrex, but that shit was worthless because it needed to be taken when I felt a migraine coming on. The problem is it's hard to tell until it's too late. And it's too expensive to pop at the sign of any old headache.

Now I just pop a bunch of vicodin and it does the trick.

Really?

Vicodin does nothing for me - for any sort of pain.

TUC-

First off - find out if she is really having a migraine. There are types of headache that mimic a migraine and migraine meds will not help these sorts of headaches. Also, just to put this out there caffeine and stress are not migraine triggers. Caffeine will constrict blood vessels and may relieve the migraine headache pain. (Cheese, dairy are typically triggers)

Most important thing I can tell you is that headache does not equate to migraine. A headache is only ONE of many symptoms that appear during a migraine episode. Which means you can have a migraine episode and not get head pain.

Ya'll read this site, all of it and have them send you the info packet

http://www.migraines.org/

That website should be a good start to learn about migraines, the symptoms, treatment and triggers.

For me personally, I have yet to find a preventative med that works for me. I take Zomig because it's the only abortive med that will help relieve the migraine. I have a few triggers that I've learned to live with or try to manipulate or avoid.

I wasn't kidding when I said a bunch. 40mg or so. Vicodin is pretty weaksauce though.

But I'm out of it anymore, so now I just turn off all the lights and curl up in a ball and rock back and forth crying when I get a migraine.
