Normally the only time it would be proper to walk up to the front before the service or when directed to is if there is a body for viewing,
Open Casket. Or if they have pictures etc sitting up there for you to look at and chat with the family.
Otherwise, just try not to be late and don't skip out early.
That is bad Mojo..
That's true. I've missed a few funerals in my time and regretted it. Remember, funerals aren't for the dead, they are for the living. The family will appreciate it.

Yup. Besides, the human race in general is so fucked up (imho) that, if I blew off everything that made me feel "uncomfortable", I'd never go anywhere.
Good for you, bro. I know what you're saying. My cousin died unexpectedly a year and a half ago. We (my brothers and I) went to his funeral. . .during the funeral, his wife got up and read a love letter that he wrote to her on their anniversary. . .three days before he died. . .wasn't a dry eye in the house except me and my brothers. . .when we were kids, my dad used to kick our asses when we cried so now, we just kind of don't. That was the closest that I came in a long time. . .actually felt kind of human for a few minutes. . .kind of nice in a weird sort of way.
