Anyone from Georgia

New member
A friend of mine went down to Georgia(Savannha) and said it was beautiful. Also was suprised at the amount of wealthy people there. Is anyone from or been to this area? What do you think of it? Im at crossroads in my life were I want to start my own buisness and am also thinking of moving to a warmer climate.

lolol, I was thinking you southerners couldnt handle someone like me.

I love it down here and I think you would too. 4 ideal seasons of the year, somewhat friendly laid back people, and lots of stuff to do if you enjoy sports & outdoors stuff.

It's interesting you were suprised by people having money. Mention Tennessee, Kentucky, etc and people assume poor hillbillies living in shacks. It's like any part of the US....you have rich, middle and poor. There is a ton of huge houses around where I live.

Love it down there...If you think Savannah nice try Hilton Head Island, SC only 30mins away..thats where the real money is..absolultey awesome..matter of fact Im moving back down for the summer and possiably permentley for the same reasons looking to start my own business...nice weather, great beaches, hot women, and a few AAS to go around as well if your looking for that too. Actually going down in a few days for a break..If you have any ?? just ask...Trust me its worth it!!

Yep....I was a Hilton Head Islander for a while......move there.

you do NOT want to move TO savannah.....there are about 2 safe areas...thats it.

Out on Tybee Island/Wilmington Island would be good.

HH is pricy and the tourist traffic in unmanageable during peak season - but its beautiful

You're no longer in Hilton Head ?

HHI i awesome...Blufton, 10mins outside of HHI is up and comming quick and is dirt keep if your looking for homes or to rent...

Shawdow how long ago did you live there..we may know each other..

I pondered a move for about 2 minutes, bu for me there are way too many variables and unknowns to make the move. Yep, I'm skeered to venture out. Ehhh. I'll just keep paying my $10,000/year in property taxes. lol

NJ will eventually force me out of here because of price. Maybe years from now I'd do it. Not sure. If i could snap my fingers and have the whole move completed with research of schools communities, cost of living etc... I would do it. But like i said, way too many variables for me and a family. If you're single, I'd do it. Even if you;re married, but it's easier when you're single. good luck Let us know how it goes.

Been in GA all my life and love it. I'm not sure where you're from but I would warn you of our summers. Yes, it can get hot but the humidity can be quite overwhelming at times when you're not use to it. If you're considering the coast I would suggest Brunswick and Sea Island rather than Savannah. It's nice but as Shadow said there are alot of shady areas and not many safe places there.

Depends. If you are from the North, and especially if you are ethnic, it's not a great place to be. Pretty chill, not much going on, definitely a beautiful place. Nice people, but they just don't vibe well with fast-moving Northerners.

Yep, I've heard a lot of that when researching places. Unless you move where other Norhterners have moved to, then it's easier. But then you'll just be in a mini-me NYC area. Ehhh, people do what they have to do.

I hear the locals call "Yankees" the "Northern Agression". wtf? Sure there are friendly places, but this is just what I've been reading. Short of actualy going to every place and visiting, that's about all one can do for now.

and The bugs are bigger.

I lived in GA 22 years and I have never been to Savannah once. Closest I came was Statesboro and I swore I'd never go back...I haven't.

Sea Island/St. Simon's Island is quite pleasant, Brunswick itself can get a little shady. When I lived in Jax, St. Simon's and Brunswick were part of my work territory. Speaking of shady Brunswick, has anyone lynched that family of child molesters/murderers yet?

Houses are huge and inherited from many years ago. Most of my experience down there was at Fort Benning & Fort Gordon. Atlanta is o.k. but lotsa wierdos. I bet 60% of people that reside in Georgia are all related to each other. No such thing as a family tree there its a family circle. lol!

That is a big reason why I was thinking about Ga. the climate is my kind of weather. The reason I said about $$$ is because I live in Jersey were there are ALOT of wealthy neighborhoods and I always hear that its not like that in most other parts of the US. Supposedly Im in the "financial capital of the world". I havent been to Ga yet, but Im definetly going to check it out very soon. Also the reason I was asking about wealth is that my line of work deals with high end clients, so in order for me to start my buisness I need to find a wealthy & populated area.

Thanks for the link. I hear you on the taxes, mine is very high and I have no property and a small house. You dont get much for your money around here. I feel like Jersey is pushing me out too. I can afford it, but barely. Plus I hate the winter here, it lasts way too long. Im in my glory during the summer here.

Yep....I was a Hilton Head Islander for a while......move there.

Is HH island more were people go to enjoy the weather but dont live year round? Some people around here have a house in Fl for the winter. They go live down there in the winter for 3 months then come back here

I am from the north, but sometimes I think our way of life creates too much stress because we're always in a hurry, I want to chill. I lived here all my life, I think Im just tired of it. I will miss alot about it if I do make the move

Trust me theres alot of wealthy people and HHI and Blufton, have alot of northerns esp from NY that have..mellowed since being down there....If your looking for highend clients there there..not sure your line of work but I can def vouge for it...I worked in several fitness center while i lived there and met many well off people..believe me $$ there...Many people do live in HHI yr round however it is also touristy in the spring and summer..Florida is now over priced... The truth is it depends on what your looking for..but dollar for dollar its worth

Cool, thanks. Im a personal Trainer, not one in a NYSC or a GOLD's. ITs a complete program design with nutrition and assessments, private suites, etc

I moved back to Atlanta last month....was in HH for about 18 months.

Worked out at Breakthrough in Bluffton.

Bluffton real estate is getting quite pricy

No one seriously calls the yankees the "northern aggression." That is a civil war moniker. If they call you that, they are kidding. We do call you yankees though...lol.

It's funny how you Northern kentuckians consider yourself southern... :)

I grew up in the appalachian mts of eastern ky. I definitely qualify as southern. ;-)

They absolutely do talk about Yankee Aggression. I just had a convo with a girl who lived in Tampa lastnight and she was telling me about how she actually got scolded at work b/c nobody could understand her since she "talked so fast" and people actually got mad when she would communicate in (what we call) a business tone.

And she was from fucking Michigan!

You people are rude and snobby.

You may not actually be, but you come off that way around here. I think it's just (as you all mentioned) the fast pace of the North and the numerous people around you on a daily basis.

Plus you all talk weird.

You people are rude and snobby.

Most people around here are rude. Its because everyone is in a hurry and dont have time for being nice. Which is another reason to move. Even though Id rather someone be rude to my face(people around here are/would) than talk shit behind my back like other area(at least from what I hear)

We don't believe in being humble...we believe in being straight forward/ to the point and like to get things done yesterday.
All my friends who aren't from up north think i'm an arrogant prick most of the time (but hey, i make them laugh so it's forgiven)

we're the realest people you'll ever meet though..at least the good ones.

i disagree about people from NY/NJ being rude...i think that's complete bullshit.
we just don't tolerate crap....but as far as sociability, we're pretty damn good conversationalists and compassionate people as long as something significant comes at out of your mouth...especially post 9/11

We are a little too straightforward for the locals. They believe in the adage "if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all". I believe in "tell it like it is". Also people in the south have two speeds at doing things. Slow and Slower. Then there is the every moment of your day has to turn into a 20 minute saga. I'm always telling people to get to the point.

Only one prob with HHI/Blufton..No Dunkin Donuts..its either drive to Charleston or rely on Starbucks...Anyone have a couple hundred grand to partner up with...we could make alot of money!!!....Not to be a prick cause i havent been on this board for quit awhile but whats up with the 600sec post rule??

I hate tea, but man it's everywhere in the South.

I think you can buy it by the gallons at McDonalds. Not sure if that's univeral or not.

Oh, and Milwaukees Best, PBR, and Natural Light are the choice beers in these parts. :)

I ate at a bar on Hilton Head that had all you can eat Snow Crab legs for two for $25.99. Great place, ate them out of house and home.

'ate them out' & 'crabs' should not be in the same sentence

nothing wrong with taking your time w/ things.....get in a hurry for what?

i live in GA and have lived in many other places and i think there is no other place id rather live. as far as people having money, people have money everywhere and GA is no exception there is plenty of it here. (atlanta area, north of Atl in the gwinett, hall, braselton area) HH is a little too touristy i used to live in destin FL and that exactly what HH reminds me of. people don't go there to make money people go there b/c they already have money. everything is expensive there but it sure is nice during the off season when you've got the beach to yourself.

They who? What place are you talking about?

People please dont move to Atlanta. Please. We're fresh out of gratis gold bars for newcomers.

It's horribly crowded now.

It's because of you.

Stay where you are.
