Anyone familiar with diuretics... please read.

As a result of my Liver going tits-up, I've got some pretty bad edema in my abdomen, legs, and feet. My Doctor initally prescribed me Lasix for the swelling, but it didn't help. So yesterday, he prescribed a stronger diuretic... Zaroxolyn.

Anyways... I did a search on EF and didn't get any hits. So I went onto Google and did a search there. I found the product monograph and this is what it listed as one of the warnings: "If you are unable to urinate or have severe liver disease, you should not take this medication." My question now is WTF? Yeah, I sorta fall into that category, but my Doctor still went ahead and prescribed this. It should be noted that this is my GP, not the Liver Specialist... so I'd venture to guess that he is quite ignorant about the contraindications of this diuretic.

Does anyone have any info on Zaroxolyn?

I have found a large amount of info on Zaroxolyn. Let me ask you a few questions first.

1. I'm going to assume this may be from AS, maybe I'm wrong. If so does your MD know you use them?

2. You say your liver has gone tits-up; Has your MD done any blood work if so do you have the results or are you just being treated secondary to ascities and pedal edema.

3. If you have done AS, what were they and how long?

4. How long have you had symptoms? Are you able to make urine if not how long?

1.) Yes, what I'm going through is DEFINITELY from AAS. I told my Doctor about everything I've used(dosages, for how long, etc).

2.) Blood work was done immediately following my appointment for the peripheral edema... he suspected Liver and/or Kidney failure. My Liver values were brutal... my Doctor suggested that my Liver is on its last legs and I'll most likely need a transplant. The Kidney values came back within normal limits.

3.) I've done 5 cycles over the past 4 years... they ranged anywhere from 12-20 weeks, all were fairly androgenic, but at moderate doses(by most standards).

4.) Symptoms? The only time(since I began to use AAS)that I experienced edema was this fall. At that point of my cycle, I was running 100mg of Winstrol/ED and 100mg Prop/E3D. This is why I'm CERTAIN it was the Winstrol that put my Liver into failure... I've used plenty of Test since 1999 and NEVER had edema before. I stopped my cycle when I became aware of how bad my edema was, but the swelling didn't go away. It was 2 weeks ago that I went to see my Doctor about it. I've been clean for 8 weeks now. I now have edema throughout my legs and feet, its moving into my lower abs too.

I'm terribly sorry to hear about this bro. My best wishes go out to you and your family. After reading your posts over the last few weeks it has prompted me to go in for blood work next week. I feel fine, no problems at all - I just want to be safe. I'll b e starting fina for the first time next week and my apointment has been made so that I will have been on the fina for one week before I have the tests done. I'll have it checked once every 3-4 weeks untill the end of my cycle.

5 cycles over 4 years and you think your liver is shot from that?!?! and they were moderate doses?!? please more info on your cycles if you dont mind?

#1 You are correct. Zaroxolyn should not be taken in individuals with liver disease. Call your MD asap.

#2 The traditional method used to determine the extent of liver damage is to measure specific enzymes which it releases into the bloodstream when it is stressed. Most of these enzymes found in the liver are also found in muscle tissue. Lifting heavy weights damages muscle tissue and as with the liver, they will be released into the bloodstream. If your enzymes level is sky high some of it may be attributed to muscle damage as well as your liver. One enzyme specific to the liver but not muscle tissue is gamma-glutamyltranspepidase (GGT) See if you can find what that level is.

#3 This may be a long shot, but it certainly is not going to hurt your situation. Try and find a reputable company that sells quality herbal supplements. I've heard a lot of talk about "liver detoxifying agents". you may be borderline failure, who knows it may work and they are not that expensive (20-30 bucks)

Personnally I would stop the Zaroxolyn, it's not going to kill you.
See if you can find your (GGT) level that is going to reflect the amount of liver damage. If you have been hard core lifting and tearing all those muscle fibers all those other enzymes are going to be high and may give a false impression of liver function.
It's up to you to try a liver detoxifier. You may be too far advanced. Either way good luck!!!
