Anyone excited about the New Years Tourists?

Is that some kind of grip strength exercise?

I don't know. I never followed Olympic lifts. The one where they guys flip the weight up from their waist to their chin, but don't press it overhead. That is what I'e heard it called. Every gym I've been too though sooner or later some skinny guy will do it inside a squat rack and/or power rack.

too... funny...

You're referring to power cleans. Don't worry about it. :)

That is the name. LoL

Anywho I've never bothered to learn the name of these as they have always seemed like an unecissary movement for my goals and I've never seen anyone over 150 lbs do these in any gym, thus I've always been under the impression that they are not a very good mass builder.

BTW does anyone ever do these with more than a 25 on each side of the bar?

Wait, are you critisizing power cleans? Or awkward technique hang cleans?

I heard of some bloke Hossein Rezazadeh that did a 245kg (539lb) power clean once. I think he was more than 150lb bodyweight at the time though :D

They're a good movement for developing power, which is useful if you need to apply your strength at speed in a sport, for example.

I agree, other movements are probably better for developing mass if that's what you're after. And no, it's not the IsoLateral DynoPressmaster.

I think that you are dismissing them somewhat hastily. They can serve you as a mass builder, particularly as it relates to traps/upper back. Learn 'em, then do eight heavy triples twice a week and watch your traps start to crowd out your ear lobes :)

I find that the traps respond best to explosive lifts, and there isn't much else out there that is more explosive than a properly executed power clean. That said, power cleans are often used in athletic strength training programs where the application of power (speed X strength) is valued over raw strength or muscle mass.

However, PC's are complicated and involve a degree of skill that many other lifts do not. That could explain why so few are adept at them at the local "curl'n'bench" gyms that we are all accustomed to.

Almost worse than tourist season was going in on a shortened holiday and seeing all the clowns who don't work out in the same timeframe I usually do. It was especially nice that Guido Gangsta thought he should spot me without me asking on a DE bench rep.

You're missing the boat bro. If you like to Squat and Dead then you gotta try some Oly lifting.

Saw the beginning signs last night of tourist season.....

Apparently "The Biggest Loser" challenge is something all these idiots have decided to takeup in their workplace. Now I'm wondering, are they going to have nutrionists monitoring their every calorie intake and working out in excess of 6 hours a day along with taking a handful of gear?

NBC has done a great job of setting all these people up for failure, these people expect to come in 1 hour a day 3 days a week and drop 15-20lbs a week, sorry folks without some hardcore gear it just aint happening.
