Anyone all excited about Google Wave yet?

I think that it's a great idea, but I also think that it has the potential of fizzling out. Remember Friendster? I'm hoping that it doesn't, but culture and habits are hard to change (at least with the people around me).

This is farrrrr more powerful than Friendster.

This is open source technology. Imagine replying on elitefitness, then on xbox forums, then setting up a meeting with co-workers in your office. Then coming home and getting updates on all 3 in one little app. Telling you a summary of all that is going on with you on the net. And ability to have chat conversations with people all over the net and never have to use a chat program ever. Now ability to do it on mobile, computer, laptop, anywhere, it's a web app that can be hosted anywhere.

This is taking electronic mail and putting it on steroids. It is beyond amazing. I can send someone an email and retract it. I can include google maps and illustrations and they can edit it back. Hell I can setup a word document and have 5 people work on it with me AT THE SAME TIME. Holy Phuck.

And this is just the "beginning"

How will the fact that this is an open source app affect its functionality on closed source Apple products? It seems like Windows/Linux users will have the upper hand here contributing to the project.

Here's the thing. Most of you speak about is available now. At work, I can do what's been specified through a variety of technologies.

You're forgetting that:
a) People are lazy.
b) People are idiots.

I thought that YOU of all people would harp on that.

The interface is designed for idiots! It's sooo easy, way easier than any ms interface!

None. It's a layer than runs over the web browser which itself runs on open source protocols. The o/s is irrelevant. When you create a website, you're not concerned if visitors are running vista or xp.
