Anybody here NEVER directly train their abs?

Like the subject says, I never do. Just wondering if anyone else was like this. Personally, I'd rather train heavy everywhere else, and let them follow along. This is the only muscle group I have this approach to, though.

I almost never train abs directly, but thats more due to laziness than anything. I find working abs really boring too. Plus, after a tiring workout, I just wanna get out of the gym. I should throw in abs on my easy day, shoulders+calves, or do them on an off day. I will say this though, my abs are never nearly as sore when I train them directly as they are after a good back workout that includes deads, chins, and bent over rows.

I hae`nt in a very long time and recently started again. There`s a big difference. I WOULD DEFINATELY DO THEM. I`ll never stop again.

maybe twice a year I will train my abs directly, I guess Its Laziness but like harman_2005 said, once I have completed a hard workout I just want to get out of the gym. Allot of exercises work them well enough for my liking.

In my BB type training days, I never did. Now I do it to increase core strength so I can move bigger numbers. :)

My are thick enough and developed as it is. . .if I diet down. . be prepared to see sawtooth development. lol.

I really don't train them directly, but I feel that squats and good mornings hit them hard.

I can do that, but I want to deadlift 600lbs without a belt, so I continue to work my abs heavy.:)

good god people, your core can never be strong enough, never. personally i train my abs 6-8 times a week, directly. it pays off too, cuase when i squat i never shake, and have great stability. you see people struggle to setup with a big squat, its always becuase of some kind of weakness, and often times its the abdominals.

I can pull over 700 beltless. My abs are so big and strong now that I don't even know if a belt would even help anymore. I haven't done abs in a long while. Don't plan on starting anytime soon.

If you want a good ab exercise, load 400-500 lbs on a bench. Sit on the bench facing the bar in the rack. Cradle the bar in the crooks of your elbows (Zercher style). Pick it up out of the rack, step back, and start box squatting like that.

I always do these after my skwats. Whoopedy doo.

:bawling: On the attempt to unrack the weight, I think my arms would just rip off at the elbows.

My arms felt like they were gonna die on a 200 zerch, I dunno about 700 lol

I used a towel too to help with the pain, I must be a sissy =(

well i do a lot of stuff that trains the ole core like seated zercher goodmornings. overhead pressing and squats..etc etc.

but i try to hit some kind of ab movement after every workout. for 1 it will be pull down abs. then hanging leg raises. saxon side bends and the ab wheel. plus my event training does a lot of core work. i mean if you want sore abs.......... do 1 arm farmers walk and finnish up with sitting on the ground (legs out in front) overhead log press.

ya u got to if u want to sqaut heavy......abs are more for just show

If you do a lot of overhead work, overhead holds , chins and oly lifts, then you probbaly don't need to work them that much

as far as strength goes anyway. But you would still need to do some rotational work like weighted russian twists etc
