i feel like im the only person at the gym that does them. people look at me like im crazy! any one else?

I wouldn't worry too much about funny looks at the gym. I get questioned all the time on why I squat, deadlift, clean, snatch, etc with a plain bar and powerrack (only squat cage is usually in use by curl monkeys)..."aren't the machine's just as good?"

Ok, ive had this peeve for a while. My philosophy is that the reason I go to the gym is to do exercises that otherwise I cant (I dont have a bench at home, I dont have a power rack, I dont have 1000's of lbs to play around with). I can do pushups any time of the day, and at any location. Pullup bars are cheap and you can buy ones, or, you can go to a local park and find anything that will do.
I dont mind people doing chinups and stuff, but I find it weird that someone would waste their time in a gym to do pushups on the floor. Maybe people enjoy the atmosphere and find themselves being more motivated?
Its not my thing, but im not bothered by it so much as long as people arent in my way (when they never are) so its all good. To each his own.

For some reason ive always done a few pushups as a warm up even since im younger. now that i think about it i think its just a habit

As a warm up push ups are fine. Otherwise they're a waste of time for size and strength development.
Pull ups are great if you can do them without injury. I weigh 300 lbs, and gave them up when they started to badly torque my elbows and forearms. Every once in a while I'll give them a try to see what happens - always the same outcome though, and now I can't even get one full rep :(

I agree. If most people in a commercial gym are looking at you like you grew a horn out of your head then you are doing something right.

I disagree... u can do weighted pushups and chinups... these movements definitely have their place..I am planning on adding more and more of these movements to my routine. Also inverted rows.

I do push ups, sometimes not everytime, in between sets when I do flat bench. Kinda like a burn out session.

Sometimes I do some push ups to finish off a chest and tri routine. If things went well I can hardly do 15-20.

I do pullups as part of my back routine and it's pointless to wait till later to do them. I stick to a 45min to 1 hr max. workout with little rest in between.
