Any Service Members??? I'm USMC

i talked to a friend's brother, he's an MP at San Diego. he said it's pretty cruise. he works from 8-2 and cruises after that. i've been getting ready physically for boot camp. run mon, wed, fri, and lift on tues, thurs, sat. i guess i really don't have an option to be a dog handler do i? being a dog handler would be the shit. how far do i hump in MCT. i thought it was school and i don't really do that much humpin. aparently i was waaayyyyyyy off on that one. let me know fellas. where's the most likely place my MCT will be?

and about the word quit, it isn't a word. they'll have to kill me for me to give up. a guy that i graduated with went to basic a while back. he was all stoked and shit. come to find out today, he washed out on the second day. my recruiter told me that he was crying in his bed and shit. they didn't want to let him go so he said he was going to commit suicide if they didn't. i can't wait to see him wearing my uniform. marine dress uniforms are fuckin sweet!

Longest hump we did in MCT was 27 miles. It was supposed to only be 25 but the Plt Sgt pissed off the Plt Co so he added an additional 2 miles on. This is all done with packs, roughly 40-50 lbs. About your friend there is no shame in washing out. The Marine corps is not for everyone and unfortunately you never know whether you have the inner strength to endure or not until you are there. It will be like nothing you have ever experienced. Listen to the words on the commercial sometime. They actually have meaning talking about being forged in fire and a right of passage not to mention the part about never yielding to anything even yourself. You will find everything has a purpose in bootcamp from the way you hold your tray at chow to the way you remove certain words from you vocab.

Although the mothers of America would never let a new politically correct corps to come out and say it most salty dogs know that being a marine is all about strength and discipline. They also know that most Marines are smart enough to do some research and find ways to optimize their strength and endurance. Lets face it we are the best because we train hard. Our motto has always been train hard to be hard. Marines are as hard as they come.

. To be honest at this point you shouldn't even be worrying about the petty things concentrate on preparing for boot camp physically.

How can you tell somebody that picking thier MOS is a petty thing. Your MOS is the most important thing. It will determine your duty stations. The rate of promotions. The enlistment and re-enlistment bonuses. The amount of training you get. How valuable you are to the civilian job market.
Most MPs I know got promoted real slow. And stood gate duty all the time. Plus you'd think they learn how to be a cop. NO they learn how to be an MP. So they have no more of an advantage over a grunt when it comes to the civilian job market. But dog handler would be great. But what are the chances in that????

Take a good look at your MOS contract it will say something like Military police and security option. Then the first two numbers of the MP field followed by two XX and then it will have0311 or03xx. What this means is that your not for sure going to get the exact MP mos. You could be a brig guard which is in the same feild as MP but thats why they put the two XX. The XX allow them to screw you... Take a look at your contract. Cause that what happend to me. I picked a certain mos the a-hole called and sayed yes I got that MOS for you. Then he said sign the papers. The papers had 11XX and 13XX not the exact 1371 the job I wanted. I asked him and he sayed he called and got me the job and that it's just standard paper work.. Well once you sign your fucked.

I just hate to see someone make the mistake I made. And don't let him tell you that you can pick another job later on. B'c it isn't that easy..

so rykker, when i sign my contract, if they put those X's, can i tell them that they need to put me in a specific job or will i be going open contract either way. second of all, about my friend washing out. i understand about boot camp, but he wasn't mentally strong enough i don't think. a lot is mental so if you just tell yourself that you're going to do it no matter what, you will. i have to do it, i don't have anywhere else to go. seems like my parents want me out of the house, and i can't afford college, so i'm fucked. as conan69 once said 90% mental, 10% physical.

Unless you have a congressman letter then you are most likely going to get a specific field not a specific job. I ended up an 11 when I arrived at SOI and they basically just divided us up into groups and said you are an 11 you are a 31 and so on. As for petty things this is how it was intended. Being a marine is all about prioritizing your mission goals right now your primary objective is to complete boot camp. In all reality you might have a rough notion of what an MP does and so on but in reality you dont have a clue about what everyday life in the corps and in your particular MOS is going to be like. Like I said once you are in as long as you are in a field that doesn't have a high attrition rate you can FAP to another MOS and give other jobs a try. This is very hard to do as an 03 since the majority of 03's out in their time and get out this means hanging on to salty dogs isn't easy so they aren't apted to allow you to leave for another MOS. MP does have slow promotions but the Marine Corps in general has a higher promotion rate than any other branch because of the high attrition rate. If you are going to the Corps for training in electronics or avionics or some kind of technical skill you plan on making a career outside the military then by all means make sure you get the type of training you need but it sounds to me like your primary concern is that of becoming a marine that being the case concentrate on that objective as long as you are in a field you THINK will interest you then you are good to go and just let the chips fall where they may...

Ryker77, tell me you had a clue what your job entailed, you think the amtrackers knew they would be hammering tracks back together with sledge hammers, do you think I knew I would spend days field daying the squad bay and cleaning my weapon when I had jack shit to do. No civilian has a clue what any MOS entails as a life style on a daily basis so that is the point I was trying to make. He isn't applying for a technical skill or something of that nature so in all reality it doesn't mean shit as long as he has an interest in the field he is applying to. I respect your opinion but its my opinion that he needs to focus his efforts on the task at hand not concentrate on things he can't control. Semper Fi, Devil Dog

The good old days. This past January my unit from Desert Storm had our ten year reunion from the war in Memphis, TN. Everybody brought their pictures and I couldn't help but wonder who those kids were in the pics. I joined the Corps when I was 17 and when I was 19 I fought with the 2nd MarDiv during the Gulf war. It was glorious times bro's. Back then I was indestructible. If I had it to do over I wouldn't change a thing. And just think, my recruiter offered me a job as an air traffic controller and I looked at him and said "that sounds boring what else have you got?" Spent the next 6 years as a grunt humping all over the world. Don't worry wesdog you'll get used to the long humps. MCT didn't have shit on the SOI humps. Regardless your MOS you will memories nobody can ever take away, like they did my Sgt. stripe. If you have any specific questions email me.

Shit try 25 miles for 4 days, it's called the Njymgn (pronounced ny meggin)road march, it's in Holland all the European Spec op groups are there as well. Thats a hump if you dont hump your feet are hamburger after the 2nd day. The Danish death march was the worst,it was 68 miles with a 40lb ruck and an AK-47, the Danish black ops ran the course!!!
