So you have no REAL skillz?

Chess skills? No. I remember the horses being able to move forward like 2 spots and one to the side, the queen being able to do whatever the fuck she wants (shocker), and the pawns being damn near useless.

Every pawn is a potential queen. Remember that. Nothing is useless. Always think more than one move ahead. Calculate everything. Stop at nothing.

Awesome. How long you been playing? Do you still play?

Started playing when I was maybe 8 or 9. My brother taught me. I started beating him within a few days of learning. I rarely play anymore. My wife doesn't play (tried to teach her but she didn't really have any interest). For a while, several years ago I had a friend who was a glutton for punishment. We would play for hours. He never won.

I learned it at 10. My dad taught me. Played a lot as a kid. Participated in tournament. Never got first place, but got 2nd one time. Also tried to teach my wife, but she showed no interest. I still play from tiem to time, when I'm not on EF boards.

I used to play it a lot when I was in highschool...our cafeteria went through various phases with different games during spares, all played for money of course. There was the chess phase, the Stratego phase, the 'guts' phase (card game), and then the poker phase before the vice principal put the kibosh on students gambling on their spares during my senior year.

Yea I used to enjoy playing chess, though never to the point of anticipating scenarios several moves ahead or learning dozens of different strategies.

Chess player here.

We could get an online tourny going at some time? I'm average, in long games - best in rapid games.

to win you have to think one move 'deeper' than your opponent

I was on the chess club in high school
I could play having started at about age 12
I read a couple books and then regularily beat the other boys

some of the greats thought out a dozen moves ahead of their opponent.
