I was doing back today, and as i thought about it i realized i didnt know much about what i was doing. I know pulldowns work for your lat spread. Im not too sure what rows do, but i did them anyway. I did closegrip pulldowns figuring they work my lower lat spread. Anyway, would someone like to go throught the anatomy of the back real quick for me, and what exercises hit what. Id like to know what im doing. I have a pretty good back, but i think that can be attributed to my job.
 
I've heard it a million times ...

Deads
Chins
Bent over rows

Those three should build the hell out of your back. Sometimes I throw in T-bar rows. Lower back work is essential also. Hypers, reverse hypers, etc.
 
chins till you puke, at least 300 a week...then after youv mastered them add weight...deads and wide grip bb rows till you can't move

back is all about hittin n hittin hard

Also - learn to deadlift - very important - If you want to add size and strength this is one of the best exercises that you can ever do.
