Another annoying ab / sixpack thread, do I need to cut more carbs?

I've definetly lost weight and inches doing the carb restriction diet. I've gone from 39 inch waist to just under 37 inches now. I'm satisfied with my look everywhere now but my stomach and love handles. I know the rule of first on last off when talking about body fat storage. When I flex my abs I can see my top four pretty well now, but the bottoms are still buried under fat. The fat I have is right on my belly button area and stretches clear around my body to my love handles like your standard spare tire area. It doesn't look that terrible but I want it all gone. Must I just keep restricting carbs and calories and doing HIIT until it all leaves. I'm worried about losing to much muscle but I know to keep protein levels high and continue doing compound heavy lifts in order to maintain as much lean mass as possible. It's just hard to see the weight lose happening and not be sure that it's just fat and not lean muscle. I'd just like some motivation or encouragement that complete fat lose is possible as long as you stick with a good diet plan and keep lifting hard.

Some more info that I forgot to mention. I started my diet at 230 pounds. My goal was to reach 5% bodyfat and still weigh 210 or more, that way I would be over 200 pounds lean mass. As I mentioned before my fear is that I'll lose to much lean mass and go below 210 trying to get to 5%. Now 5% isn't an absolute must, most importantly is for me to lose almost all fat storage around my stomach and love handle areas. If that all looks good and I'm only 7 or 8 then fine. Should I have my bodyfat checked every couple weeks or month to make sure I'm not losing to much lean mass. How concerned should I be about losing lean mass during my cutting cycle if I'm lifting hard still and keeping protein intake very high, 300 plus grams a day. I have layed off the legs and deads since I'm doing HIIT three times a week, will that cause me to lose lean mass? Should I be so concerned or just wait and be patient, since it's only the middle of the third week of dieting. Finally how strict must one be to achieve low bodyfat goals. Can I eat out junk food at all or is once a week not that bad.

you dont need 300 g's of protien a day. I g per lb of body weight will suffice. Your probably not using all that protien anyway, thats why you cant get down to 5%.

I know, I'm a very impatient person. I'm just concerned about dropping below my target weight and still not being at 5%. I feel that at the rate I'm going that I still have a considerable amount of fat to lose and not much available weight. I'm at 224 now and that only leaves fourteen pounds of fat, I can't tell if once that fourteen pounds of fat is gone whether I'll be where I want to be. I can't visualize if the fat around my waist area is equal to or close to fourteen pounds. Also about the high protein post. I'm trying to stay between 2800 and 3000 calories right now. I'm creating a caloric deficit, and that's the impotant part. I'm also restricting my carbs so at the calories I need and the ratio of 45 protein/ 35 fat /20 carbs, I can't reduce my protein without throwing all the other ratios and calories off. Am I calculating my nutrition wrong? I'm working towards a low calorie diet but instead of going from a normal carb diet to like 20 or less grams a day I started at 150 grams of carbs and plan to drop to 100 and then 50 and then less than 20. I figure a tapering effect is better than going straight to 20 grams. Finally is it at all possible to put on lean mass while cutting and eating a reduced carb diet? If it is what must be done to make this happen?

any supplements?

personnaly Flax, Some ephidrine based product, and yohimburn helped me get to around 8-9%, I was on ckd and did cardio later on at night

oh yeah, maybe some R-ala with carbs would help as well.

as for the lean mass gain while on diet, I believe it is possible, I grew in my chest/traps/lats/shoulders while on ckd and while losing fat in my stomach and love handles.

What's r-ala and what does it do for you? I'm a naturally thin person a true ectomorph, so having put on weight the last three months during my bulking cycle gave me a bit of a complex even though I only got as high as 13% at my fattest.

It helps shuttle the carbs to the muscles instead of the carbs being stored as fat, it is used mainly on ckd but can have advantages while on a regular diet

Is CKD very complex or not? It basically involves zero carbs during the week mon-fri, and then you eat whatever the hell you want Saturday and Sunday right?

I bet Spatts could help with this one...

That's not why he can't get down to 5. There are lots of guys that get extremely lean on 1.5-2 g per lb a day. You can say all that you want about glucose conversion, but I'm cutting at 1.5 g/lb a day and the fat is flying off.

I think I just heard spatts grinding her teeth.

1g/lb protein would not be enough.

Cobra, go to the diet board and do some reading on MrX's articles.

Keep Doing legs, that will add a lot of LBM to you, up your workouts, and keep eating, it wont be as fast, but you will feel better then if you kill off more calories.

A suggestion try joining a men's sports league of some sort for the extra activity, im trying to join a summer lacrosse league, for that reason and to keep my skills sharp.

I'm definetly getting back to squats, and going to throw deads in as well, it just seems like a ton of work every week. Is four lifting days a week plus 3 HIIT sessions too much? I don't know if I can maintain focus with that much volume every week.

No its not a lot. if you want to really drop the weight off HIIT atleast 4 a week. I don't know your schedule but if possible spread it out lift and running atleast 3 hours apart. I do two but im used to it. Do legs and back on seperate days legs tuesday back on fri or legs mon back thu vice versa... Hope this helps at least a little.

why do you want to get down to 5%?

although you could be an exception, my intuition is that with a 39inch waist at 230 you are holding a lot less LBM than you thought.

i was 245 and had a 39, sadly. i think i was low to mid 30s in BF im now 210 and have a 32inch waist and am about 15%, i dont know if this post even makes sense im so tired

Unless my last 3 body fat measurements have been totally off I'm pretty sure that 13% of 230 is 29.9 pounds of fat. So that leaves just over 200 pounds lean mass. As for the 39 that is an honest relaxed measurement of my waist which is measured at your biggest area around the love handles and across the belly button. Guys with 50 inch guts still think they are 30 inch waists because their pants snug around there little asses. When measured properly people often find out how full of shit they are especially when measuring height. All of my fat stores have been right at my belly button area and on my sides. I look pretty cut right now even with my large waist. As for why I want to get to 5%, why the hell not. I know I can do it, with proper training and diet, plus for me I know that being skinny naturally will make it pretty easy. I don't know if you read my original post but it took me a long time and a lot of heavy eating to turn myself into 13% fat. 13% fat by most charts for males is still in the atheletic category. Most guys never see that after years of work, so naturally being thin for me is an advantage to getting even thinner.

Louden why the angry smilie, something I said? You'll have to check out my newest thread I gave a shout out to you, your my favorite member here and I admire your physique the most.

Cobra,

Keep burning calories, but make sure you are eating a few carbs for energy.

The key is to burn more calories than what you are taking in. . .this constitutes weight loss.

Also, sodium will also retain fluids, so watch your sodium intake.

Louden those pics that you are always changing up in your avatar, are they contest pics or just for the hell of it. You look like you got crazy cut tanned and oiled up for a photo shoot. Do you maintain a body fat level close to that in your pics or was that a one time thing to see how cut you could get. Are you a lean guy at heart or do you prefer to bulk and gain size.

the road from 10% to 5% is a lot different than 15% to 10% is why i ask. You certainly risk losin muscle, at a much higher level with the former. Not to mention women generally are turned off by sub 8% or so bodyfat. men on the other hand..... haha just make sure you know what you're gettin yourself into.

As for me, no matter how high i pull my pants up, these 37's still fit but i'lll admit i'm higher than 13% right now. Possible you have a very hypertrophied midsection but much more likely you are holding a lot of subcutaneous and visceral fat around there, more than you suspect.

I am having the same problem losing the waistline fat. My waist has been staying right aroun 35-36"(sucking the gut in that is) and I have tried low carb without much success. I am 5'11" 190 at an estimated 17-18%bf and looking to get lean. I am going to up my HITT sessions to 4 a week and just do 3 days a week full body workout. Any advice on losing getting lean? I eat very clean and am running around 2200 cals a day during the week. Should I up the cals to lose BF? Or lower them? Whatever I am doing doesn't seem to be working.
