Anatomy lesson - what did I pull?

I was doing deads on Monday... and weighted pullups. I managed to yank the crap out of my shoulder on weighted pullups... but I also pulled something in my side/upper pelvic area on deads.

It's on the left side on the far side right about where my torso meets my pelvic area. If I'm wearing shorts... it would be right at the level of the waist band about 2-3 inches in from the side.

Swelling/pain is just starting to set in.

Anybody know what I pulled?

Seriously, I'm having trouble understanding. It's about waist band and 2-3 " to the front ???

Yes... it is in the front... not a place I'd normally think of hurting myself on deads.

gizzards are what birds and worms use for mechanical digestion...our stomachs use HCl and their stomachs use stones/gravel lol. Maybe you pulled some kinda hip flexor? Doesn't seem like a muscle that would be used, but I feel my abs contract and that whole area...probably just for stabilization...who knows.

Thats where it hurt when I had a hernia. Very sensitive to touch, I could actually feel a little bulge between the muscle tissue. No fun at all.

I would have said hernia too, they are more rare up there, but definately a possiblity. However, I think you would be in big time pain though. The long delay in the swelling makes me doubt it though.... Because of the swelling part would have to go with Lord Sust and say hip flexor or something....

I would try to isolate hip flexor vs abs as much as possible and see which movement hurts more or which is weakest when you try to contract.....

I don't think it is a hernia... no bulge... and definitely not a hernia area. This week will tell. If I'm pulling deads again on Monday... I'm fine.

In no way am I suggesting that you definately have a hernia. I just wanted to clear up the misconception that hernias exist in the groin region alone. There are numerous kinds of hernias: ventral, umbilical, ventral/epigastric, incisional, spigelian, recurrent, recurrent incisional, bilateral (or 'double'), stoma, hiatus, inguinal, femoral, and scrotal. These can occur in areas from the bottom of the rib cage to down in the groin area.

My best guess would be your hip flexor...

Probably over extended when at the top of the lift.

Did you arc your back a lot? Because that definitely leaves you more liable to pull something in your lower ab region, including hip flexors.

The problem with bad form is that while you are doiing it you think it is good form. I'm not sure where in the movement I even pulled it. It didn't hurt enough at the time to catch my attention... just a little "owie." It wasn't until the second set that I said... Uh oh.
