Anabolics and High School Students

As most of you know, the Anabolic Steroid Control Act was passed in part because of the supposed "epidemic" of AS usage among high students. I decided to dig around on a hunch that
there couldn't possibly be that many 16 year olds injecting huge
amounts of deadly steroids into their "veins". Here's just a few of
the state wide studies I looked at:

-all surveys emphasized the confidential nature of the responses and were administered by research teams rather than school personnel. The study by Radakovich et al., was conducted among high school seniors only. The rest were given to the 9-12 grade levels.

Statewide Cross-Sectional
References #Partic. State (year) %Overall Prev.
Radakovich et al. 810 California (91) 2.2*1
Tanner et. al. 6,930 Colorado(93) 1.3
Luetkemeier et. al. 11,907 Utah (95) 1.4
Stilger & Yesalis 873 Indiana (93) 6.3*2
Ringwalt 11,351 N. Carolina (89) 0.5
North Carolina 10,848 N. Carolina (91) 1.6
South Carolina 223,663 S. Carolina (90) 2.1
South Carolina 232,304 S. Carolina (93) 1.6
Windsor & Dumitru 901 Texas (88) 1.4
Texas 87,981 Texas (90) 0.7
Texas 73,073 Texas (92) 1.7
Texas 107,093 Texas (94) 2.2
Durant et. al. 1,881 Georgia (90) 1.9
Durant et. al 1,442 Georgia (91) 1.7
Maryland 18,218 Maryland (92) 1.3

*1The authors also noted that a separate survey of the student athlete population indicated that 37% of females and 49% of males claimed that they had never heard of anabolic steroids

*2 27% of students claimed they had used crack cocaine withing
the last week

I'm sure even these numbers are inflated.

Stay Big/Stay Safe

Well if there is an AS epidemic, and that is the rational for making them illegal, then cigarettes & beer should be illegal also. I think that there are just a few more HS & College kids using those products, which are WAY worse for you than AS could ever be.

When used correctly, AS helps your body and I don't even put drugs, alcohol, tobacco, ect. in the same category. I put it in the same category as one of the basic food groups! ya know?

PS- but AS is definately not for everyone, and should not be taken, in my opinion, by people under 21 (males anyways). Due to the fact that the average male does not stop growning until he is 25. I think that the majority of a person natural growth should happen before any AS is taken.

:fro: peace

Fuck the government, george W jr. did cocaine, and he wants to end columbian cocaine shipments.
I don't like cocaine, but isn't that kind of fucked up?

I graduated from highschool last year and I can definately say that there is NO anabolic steroid epidemic. How many big highschool kids do you see? Practicly none. I went to a medium sized school and there MIGHT have been 2 other than myself that i suspected. I think that the original study that made that claim was blown out of proportion because alot of people i went to school with didnt know the difference between 'andro' and the real thing. Alot of guys used andro, so they probobly considered that a steroid when they took the survey.

Well, I have been out of high school for a little over three years now. In highschool, i knew nothing about juice. Once i got to college, it was a totally different situation. They are so easy to get now, at least with athletics they are. I think alot of this is due to the spreading of the I-net! Just my thoughts...

It doesn't appear to be a steroid epidemic from the looks of people but there does appear to be a "Biggie Size" and whopper epidemic which is obvious by all the fat fucks I see walking around.

I don’t know about that… I do agree that if steroids are used correctly they are safer then booze and tobacco. But you got to remember there are some dumb people out there who could really fuck themselves up misusing AS.

Shit....I really don't think its too high. Costs, availability has to be a problem for high schoolers. Then again...."never underestimate the predictability of stupidity"

its all political propeganda to persuade law abiding citizens to support their ludacris persuit to ban anabolic steroids to capotilize on their ban, through amature sporting, and law enforcment siezers and prosicuting 'criminals'. ive used steroids when iwas 16 and so did many of my friends. i probly would of waited longer and did them wiser. if i was more educated and not afraid to go as a doctor or a teacher or some1 in the gym with out hearing how negative they are and how im not guna be able to have children and the children i do have will be bald hermaphrodits. theres no epidemic, only more mindless capotilist propeganda.

dude acording to the late dan duchaine if you inject andro it gives great gains

the only epidemic in my opinion is the medias constant bashing and false propaganda about a.s. It makes me sick just thinking about it. Steriods are completly safe with proper precautions and knowledge i think. I sure as hell no where i went to school people didnt know a fucking thing about steriods. all they would say was that your dick would shrink. again using false statement from the media, which isn't true, and is easily taken care of and not even a concern with proper use and precaution

changing steroid laws are easier then we think its no longer 1986 and now there are many studies done on the safety of aas all we need is a doctor to bring it up with the supreme court liek the same thing those clinic docs are doing with l-tryptophan

Counter Point

Why would we want AS to be legal in the first place? If they were legal and readily available then there would be a whole lot more massive, buff dudes out there. Don't you enjoy being the exception? I know I do.

steroids were legal until 1990 so before 1990 ecerybody in the world was buff?

That was before the advent of the internet with it's wealth of information and the proliferation of weight training.

Exactly, back in the 80's, very few people knew what they were doing with regard to AS use. The only available info was Duchaine's Underground steroid guide and I wasn't all that great.

I ALSO RECENTLY GRADUATED HS...

THERE IS NO EPIDEMIC....OTHER THEN BEER POT AND MABYE E....

I WAS DEF. THE ONLY KID THAT KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM OTHER THEN WHAT YOU LEARN IN HEALTH, WHCIH IS SHIT ANYWAY......

NO ONE(OTHER THEN ME) DID ANY JUICE... FACT!!

BUT THATS ONLY MY MIDDLE CLASS HIGH SCHOOL OF COURSE!

True enough - the fact remains that the general person is not going to want to experiment with anabolics (or even exercise for that matter), AS users still constitute a very small percentage of the population - a part of the population that is NOT linked to the typical types of criminal activity associated with most "drugs"
Furthermore, with the invention of the internet, most people with the motivation can find information about how to properly use
anabolics and how to avoid most of the reported side effects.
What other controlled substance has active boards such as
Elite which look out for fellow users -

dude you are very right now i know almsot all drugs side effects have been exagerated but aas is diffrent aas if used properly is the only drug that makes your life better ,its not even that hard to have it decriminalized all it takes is balls for a medical doctor to go infront of the supreme court with actual studies concerning the safety of aas use ,exactly whats going on with l-tryptophan right now and the docs are winign so far

AMEN BROTHER! we need some one in the medical world to step up and give their honest oppinion on the subject, and inform people about the fact that most of the sides are exaggerated and mostly a bunch of media hype!

I attended an upper-middle class high school-- graduated last year. Many there on the sports teams did juice. /c of the microcosm that existed in this school (in terms of education) many athletes did follow correct procedures (and theories-- site inj., anti-e's, etc.) If a school is academically and athletically elite then chances are the kids who choose to do certain compounds (aas and narcotics) are going to be better educated. Even though there was a good deal of users in high school, the amount over the summer thereafter (and this college semester) increased greatly. What is odd is that from what i've heard about this year's senior class the number who use aas is 1/2 of my class.
Sorry if this seems a little rambling, i'm on pain meds b/c of an incident that occured over the weekend.

I went to Private Highschool that had students from about 10 other public school areas this means that I was pretty well lacquainted with the scenes of all these highschools. I can honestly say where I am from there were many kids on the sauce. I didnt touch the stuff while I was in highschool but about 15 of the 90 guys in my class were on and I would guestimate that that % was even throughout all the other highschools in my area. It was rediculus how much the fools paid for gear too. I know some jids were paying 150 for a bottle of t-200 and thougt it was a good deal. Thats fucking crazy, the local source was making amd cash off all of them. What i dont get is how these kids could pop 5 d-bol a day take a shot a week and gain 25-30 lbs when they knew jack shit about what they were doing. In highschool it was so obvious because the people on were usually a bloated mess and lost most of their gains quickly unless they didnt go off..
