the rest of it- browsing message boards, having user handles, having steroid information--none of this is illegal..if you get busted their looking for you & the gear, and the Gear & you, and even better-the Gear, You, SomeCash/ bank account record(so they can take you money)..the cops/prosecutor know that in this area the judge wants those things, not a computer thats cookied into message boards-thats nothing, i'll bet 95% of the time when they confiscate a computer during a bust they don't even look at it and just prosecute of the gear/you/cash .. the computer is probably just donated to state auction or whatever.

Besides doing a secure reformat on your current hard-drive and reinstalling your OS, you should only do your private browsing in a secure environment. Use a live CD.

Note that Safari under Mac OS X has a private browsing option but I wouldn't trust that its memory is immune to disc-caching if your free RAM is low.

With a live CD you can move data to the hard-drive or to a USB flash drive if you choose to but, otherwise, everything takes place in ram. The computer boots from the CD or DVD and the hard-drives only get involved if you choose to mount them. When you switch off, everything not specifically saved somewhere by you is lost and gone.

I understand what you are saying. It is better safe then sorry and yes they can use the information against you.... There are cases of them showing all emails to the jury..... This would look very bad for you.. Dont be lazy that is how you get in trouble. Also they can get all your emails even if it is a hush acount, if they really want...
