Amputation above the knee

Heard of sad story of a 25 year old that got his leg amputated above the knee yesterday morning due to infection from steriod use.
This happened in NFLD.
Guess he had a bad case of cellulitis and if it was not going to be amputated it would of turned systematic....

i had cellutis from a cut on my hand...i went to the hospital with a day...and it was gone within 48hrs....youd have to wait pretty damn long for the cellutis to progess to the point of amputation...at that point whos fault is it...you cant blame gear for plain ol stupidity....

there are about 10 known cases of that in the U.S. seriously doubt it from a needle...i thought you had to be in direct contact with someone infected...who would stick themselves with a needle with someone around wiht a flesh eating virus....

read about something like this in MD.. Palumbo describing a kid , early twenties and a few weeks out from a show. he injected into his delt. it got infected, so i beleive he took a shit load os ibuprofen and covered it with a band-aid... a few weeks later he couldn;t stand it, went to the docs, and had to have it amputated... sad thing was, it spread throughout his body and he died shortly after...

I think if an infection at the site where u injected lasts more than 3 or 4 days you should be going to get it checked out. waiting a few weeks and taking a bunch of painkillers instead of gettin it checked out is not the best idea... he was prolly worried about what he was going to tell his doctor the infection was from. gotta remember, your not going to get into trouble from your doctor from using gear, your health should be your number one concern.

It is extremely likely that it was a simple cellulitis that went untreated and lead to amputation. No matter how advanced the usual cellulitis, it can almost always be treated with debriedment (removing dead and infection tissue) and massive systemic antibiotics. That is what tells me that probably it wasn't usual cellulitis. It may not even be related to injecting AAS, unless he injected in the calf.

Nectrotising Fascitis, which is commonly known as flesh-eating infection is caused by lowly Group A Streptococcus, which also causes the common 'Strep-throat' (a few cases have happened with MRSA). It is the way infection behaves in some people that it becomes so dangerous. And not much is known why it spreads so fast in some people. Group A Strep can be introduced through a needle. It can even happen with very minor injuries and even by scratching on a rash. Infection can involve the whole limb in a matters of hours and that makes amputation necessary to prevent spread in rest of body.

IT IS VERY, VERY, VERY RARE.
If a red, painful swelling is growing fast, or it is oozing profuse fluid (which may not look like pus), go to ER right away. If you break a pimple and profuse fluid start oozing from it, there is a possibility.

You know? Sometimes even though I'm fortunate enough to have health insurance, I still am reluctant to go to the doctor. Even though things hurt like hell. I never could understand what it is about my own nature, and others that I know, that make us inherently stubborn. Or hopeful that our bodies are resilient enough to bounce back from illnesses that plague us all our lives. For us to judge some one else and call them stupid I think is doing no more than pointing a finger back at ourselves. For even I can say I too have waited till I could no longer stand it. I'm sorry for the guy for being human. And, I question those who judge people for doing those things that I damn well know is nothing more than human nature at it's worse.

Well the nurse told me he that he said he got the infection then went to the hospital the next day.

That seems to quick to me.. maybe he said that to them so he wouldn't feel so dumb for waiting for so long before going or who knows..

sad story one way or the other :worried:
