Am Cardio

I have been doing am cardio 3 times a week for durations of 30 - 40 minutes at an intense pace (on an empty stomach).. What supplements should i be taking before i get on the machine??? My goal is to burn fat but i don't want to lose lean mass... Any thoughts???

also i have heard conflicting opinions on your meal following this workout... Should there be carbs or not in this meal???

before am cardio....

coffee
ECA
NYC

those will help you burn more fat

Agreed!
And yes, your post workout should contain both protein and carbs.

SENIOR......

what has worked for me is simply 50mg of effedine and a really strong cup of coffee about 20 minutes pre a.m cardio.

instead of swallowing the tab whole, chew it.
it'll kick in very very fast that way.

now,

if you plan on getting another workout the same day (either at the gym or another home cardio session) then take another 50mg before that workout.

word of advice though....

stay away from aspirin as it totally shuts down protein synthesis.

i know its gotten quite a reputable tag for its "synirgistic" effect when taken with caffeine and efedrine but it does more bad then good.

I also heard the Aminos where good to take before cardio. Any thoughts... I want to lose as little muscle as possible while doing AM cardio on an empty stomach....

ahhh....and some people say l-glutamine is good but i think it will only cause amonia levels to rise in the blood

you will have an impossible time convincing me that any supplement can spare muscle during an intense a.m cardio session (on an empty stomach).

but there is one thing you can take to spare all your muscles despite doing all the cardio in the world........

250mg sustanon every other day for 10 weeks.

i'm not advocating the use of it but making a point that a.m cardio is VERY catabolic to protein synthesis.

I like NYC but have no problem with just one big cup of black Coffee pre cardio and as long as your getting the right macronutrients AM cardio is no more catabolic to muscle tissue the performed any other time of the day just keep the intensity on the medium side dont go ape shit

been two weeks now and I have hit cardio on MWF on an empty stomach.... I have football on Sundays but as soon as that is over I will start doing it on the weekend as well.. It takes some getting used to but it is not that bad...

Used BetaLean for the first 2 weeks (cardio days only) - awesome.
Using NYC everyday for the next 2 weeks... I will keep you guys posted...

I have heard some opinions that taking in as little carbs as possible on these cardio days will help with fat loss... Any opinions on this... I have been having a Whey/Maltodextrin shake after my 40 minutes of cardio

I also find it easier to stick to my diet on the cardio days....

LOL, yeah right, if that's the case then I'd be a skinny 12 year old b-ball player, and that is most certainly NOT the case!

Cardio is great to get ripped quick (provided you KNOW HOW to diet correctly!) It has no bearing on protein synthesis at all.....u don't aim to build muscle while doing cardio, and as long as you have a positive nitrogen balance the other 23 hours or so during the day, and are focusing on using post-workout nutrition to the fullest, you have nothing to worry about. If it's been "catabolic" for you, then you're doing something wrong.

Cardio is also good for the old ticker, let us not forget.

~SC~

I agree With SC...but also, its the intensity and duration of cardio that often affect catabolism. If one wants to do intense cardio, do HIIT and keep it short and hard. If you want to do longer sessions and keep muscle, do low intensity work.
